for physics, definitely get Mr Geoff Davies. he's the assistant chief assessor or something, and he teaches at mgs and lectures for tsfx during holidays. (he does private tutoring i think)

This name sounds familiar... I think he may have done a few sessions with Access Education a few years ago... if it's the same guy, I remember being pleased with his easy-to-understand explanations.

He's the guy that teaches at MGS.  He's pretty funny and a top bloke but sometimes he gets side-tracked and talks about anything but physics.  Overall though, he's knowledgeable in physics and can convey concepts.

Are student tutors with lots of VCE knowledge and personal experience good or experienced teaching teachers?

Depends on what you prefer. I know many students who learn better whilst under professional guidance from a knowledgeable teacher. However, sometimes, the way in which these teachers communicate may not be the best way you receive your info, perhaps made worse if the teacher's some kind of VCE examiner/veteran. In contrast, students who have just passed VCE are usually more suited to people our age in terms of the way they speak, teach, etc. There is a real difference between a student to teacher environment as opposed to a student to student/ friend to friend relationship. Again, it's all up to you to choose which type of environment best fits your traits.

I don't really mind, ultimately, tuition is just for learning information which would hopefully improve my knowledge in subject, study skills and examination techniques. I am unsure whether teachers have much knowledge in areas outside the subject however students have been through it all.

But, technically, what you would learn from students would differ only that much from what you would learn from teachers. Although, in essence, the information and concepts involved in the studies are the same, there is just that little bit more you can learn from students that have just finished their exams as opposed to teachers who have had the same experience 30 years back.

lol one of the most important parts of my exam technique is from a teacher, don't underestimate experience - their exams decade ago are essentially the same thing as exams today.

One point where experience becomes a negative metric is when you understand the material so well that it is ingrained into your memory by rote (whether you like it or not), and you forget how you procedurally generated that memory back in year 12 (i.e.: how you recalled memories) -- these usually make the best memory/study tips and tricks!

That said, one man's silly memory trick might just be stupid for someone else.

Take for example, the VCAA exams. In 1990 they didn't have multi choice but now they do. Its already a very important skill to develop.

Hmm ok, but what makes you think someone knows how to handle something professionally just because they went through it. It's true that a person will gain a bit of insight into performing MCQ exams if they just did one, but there will be more effective methods that these people would not have conceived. You don't learn just by doing, you also learn by taking conscious efforts to educate yourself and expose yourself to new ideas.

And in what 1990's VCAA exam do they not have multiple choice?

I have no idea kyzoo. That is just what I think and still unsure whether a teacher or a student is better.
