What books do you guys use? New or second hand? Just curious. Personally think 2nd hand is good value (half price) and can sell back for half price.

All my books were second hand this year. Last year I got new ones and after 2 weeks they looked worst than my mate who had second hand books, waste of money imo.

2nd hand in good condition. Poor condition books dissuade me from studying for some reason.

If it weren't for second-hand books, I'd have to pay upwards of $600 each year for uni books >_<

This year, though I was only able to get 2 books second hand. All the rest had to be brand new :(

My school organised second-hand book sales every year. I never saw the point of getting brand-new books, unless they were exercise books that you write the answers in!

If your school doesn't do that, there's always www.textbookexchange.com.au

Second hand.
Some just need some contact and they're good to go.

2nd hand mostly. I wreck my books with annotations/highlighting anyway. Had to get new ones for chemistry and I think English Insight was new too since it was a new course in 2008.

If you're worried about germs, invest in some hand sanitisers and use them after studying.

From the 6 years of high schooling I've done not once have a used any of my English textbooks. They're such a waste of money, I wish I never bought any haha.

This might be a little off topic, but where do uni students usually buy their second hand books besides going to other students?

I've only gotten 2 second hand books this year. Got the rest new, even had to wait a while for the Bookshop to stock up...

Monash has a second-hand bookshop. The law students society also runs a second-hand book sale at the start of every year, I dunno about other faculties or other universities though

Everyones all picky when it comes to the start of the year ( wanting new txtbooks- hey I was one of these people too :( ) but you get over it. It's really a waste because you can buy second hand books for like 50% and then end up re-selling for the same price if you don't stuff the book up.
so imo get 2nd hand books unless you have money to throw away.
