University Transfer Questions

Hello,

I'm trying to plan everything for uni (even though ENTERs haven't been released yet) and I just want to ask a few quick questions.

Pretty much I don't think I performed that well this year (not REALLY bad but not 90+) but still want to try and get into a decent university.

Put simply I am interested in Commerce and Deakin Geelong is close, so I am contemplating going there but really would like eventually to transfer into a 'better' university.

How does transferring work? Is it possible if I perform well first year to transfer to say Melbourne and complete 2nd/3rd year there and get me certificate from them?

Thanks in advance

You said that Deakin Geelong is very close.  I think Geelong is considered a rural area by VTAC so did you apply of Category 6 in SEAS?

If you did, then all you need is 88+ to have a guaranteed entry into Commerce at UoM.  See here for more details.

I don't live in a rural area, but am still pretty close to Geelong. I'm kind of in the middle of Geelong/Melbourne. I live in Werribee which is pretty close to Geelong so it's convenient for me to go there. If I lived closer to the east I would highly consider Monash as an option, but travelling there is really too long.

Since the SEAS doesn't apply for me, is it still possible to get a transfer?

I live in Geelong and we're not exactly a rural area. If that were true there would be thousands of people applying for seas just for living in geelong.

My cousin started off at Deakin Geelong and then transferred to RMIT. He worked hard first year of uni and made sure he achieved the scores to transfer. I have also heard of similar cases of people transferring to Melbourne Uni and obtaining credit for their courses for instance Vic Uni and Latrobe.

I am hoping to do Commerce too and was considering Commerce/law at Deakin Geelong because it is so close for me eg. 10 minute bus. The main reason I didn't choose it for my first pref is because I also worry about the reputation of Commerce at Deakin. I have heard from a couple of people that are doing the course, that the teaching quality at Deakin Commerce is not that great and that it may be difficult to get into the Big 4 (if that is what you are hoping to do).

Instead I have chosen to go to Monash Caulfield which has a fairly descent public transport, is close to central Melbourne, and has the reputation of a top 8 uni. Enter is about 83 for bach of business and if for me it takes an hour and 10 minutes to get there, it would be a lot quicker for you :)

Anyway hope this helps and good luck

That kind of sucks considering it takes about an hour to get to Melbourne by train, doesn't it?  So how come it doesn't classify as a "rural area"?  Is it because the population is too big?

In Australia it is weird, but we have SUBURBS... other countries have "cities" (look at at America in the atlas for example). But point is, Geelong is an urban hub it has a large population, i think 2nd that to "Melbourne", so it's not rural.

Each Uni defines rural as different as well I think, but typically rurual is beyond the metropolutan boundries.

My attached piece shows what "Melbourne" is....although technically u would think Melbourne= the CBD.

So any suburb outside the defined boundries = rural
What's weird though is Wikipedia defines Glen Waverly as rural o.O.....its only 29km away from the CBD
