Dilemma

Basically, I have to choose between two courses I like:
At Monash, bachelor of commerce/aerospace engineering double degree
Or at Melbourne, bachelor of commerce with an engineerig sequence that will allow me to do a masters in engineering after the Bcom.

I seriously have no idea what to choose :s both appeal to me! I'm pretty sure my score will be enough to get me into either one, so that's not a problem.

Have you been offered a scholarship?
Otherwise then go with Melbourne.

Monash FTW. :P It's an awesome course

Seriously, if you can't decide by the end of the week[you only have one week to change preferences don't you?] go with whichever one is closer

and Melb uni isn't the greatest place for engineering, so yeah, go to Monash

Crappy why monash?

And nah no scholarship. At least I don't think so (I'm not home, I'm on a holiday). The thing is, there is no estimate cutt-off mark for the monash course so I take back what I said, it might be a problem :p

I'm a bit reluctant to go with melbourne because I'm scared there will be too little engineering and also because entry into the masters isn't guarenteed. However, I love Melbourne's setting and feel, and prestige. Then there's Monash who impressed me with their engineering facilities. But I've heard that a double degree is quite demanding.

Oh and travel time doesn't bother me. Melbourne is easily accessed by public transport in <1 hour. I would get to Monash by car, and on a normal day it would take 20 mins, but taking morning traffic into account...yeah, longer.

Where do people hear this stuff from?? It's not true! You still study 4 subjects each semester, it'll just be 2 from each degree rather than 4 from the one degree. Your course goes for longer, so I guess staying at uni for more years is demanding... sort of?

I hear Monash is better for engineering. It's also ranked higher in the world (I think ~no.16 for engineering)

I think Melbourne's prestige/global recognition and (yes, this is very superficial of me) it's setting/scenery/buildings are keeping me from going for monash. Fuck I'm materialistic :(

I believe a CSP place for engineering is guaranteed if you get into B.Sci.

Of course that's not the reason why I'd choose one over the other. It's just a small factor. And yeah I looked at BSci but would rather commerce.

I don't think Melbourne offers Aerospace Engineering. I know if you study the science degree, or straight out engineering degree that you can't major in it. Therefore it's unlikely the masters degree will be for Aerospace. It's something to check out because if Melbourne doesn't offer it then go to Monash. (Assuming you definately want to do Aerospace engineering)

Don't think this is necessarily the case. For BCommerce/M.ChemEng student at Melb Uni, we do more subjects (maths/science/chem eng) related to Chem Eng than a BCommerce/BChemEng student at Monash.

Well I mean I'm not entirely set on Aerospace engineering. Besides, job prospects aren't the best in Australia so the aerospace certification would simply be a bonus to mechanical. But yes you're right, Melbourne doesn't offer aerospace.

Kopite, are you sure engineering is more prominent than commerce subjects??
