has VCAA made a mistake?
« on: December 18, 2009, 06:10:37 pm »
looking at the statement of resultsh they have sent me, i just realised today that my accounting grades are A+ A and A, granting me with a study score of 38.
I am pretty sure that my grades at school are A+ and i am ranked good at my school.
On addition, i have obtained an A+ for the mid-year exam.- i purchased a statement of marks for that examination

Has VCAA stuffed something up?

the mid year exam is GA1 which is the first one.
the second one, the 'A' is your SAC marks, depending on your ranking, your GA2 is moderated accordingly, so if you got all A+'s and were not ranked that highly/ your school cohort wasn't strong. you may have had your A+ be moderated down to a high A or lower.

You should check with your school again (if it is possible). Maybe you can get your ENTER boosted!! :)

That said, the VCAA score shouldn't only be ranked just by your school. It is a ranking of everyone in Victoria.

Ok first thing you need to realise is that your SAC marks from school aren't actually an A+. Compared to other students in your school it may be A+ but compared to other students in the state, it is only an A. One thing people don't realise is VCAA look at your rankings, and adjust everyone's scores relative to how well they do on the exam. In this situation, your class must not have done well which brought your sac mark down to an A.

Also looking at your study score, an A+, A, A giving a 38 is perfectly reasonable. For religion and society I had an A, A+, A and received 38
Religion and Society (38), IT - Software Development (45) English (35), Chemistry (49), Methods CAS (48), Specialist Maths (50)
ENTER: 99.15

You should check with your school if you are unsure if the rankings are correct.

No. I think that 43 with a B+ is amazing! Your SAC's must be moderated to 100% :P

43 is a bloody good mark for English Second Language...for an A+ A+ B+, it's definitely reasonable.

If you get A+ on  exams, then your SAC mark should also be moderated to A+, this only seems fair, sadly this isn't always the case.  The fact that you weren't able to to pull an A+ in one of the exams probably cost you, as it would have also ensured you got an A+ for SACS, and would have more than likely boosted your SS into the 40's.

I thought he said his results were A+ A+ B+, with the B+ being SACs.
