Hi, I'm interested in doing Radiography & Medical Imaging at Mon Clayton and just wondering if I could get some info about it.
Could you please tell me:

Rough ENTER score needed/UMAT score/Other requirements needed other than pre reqs?
Course difficulty?
Job Difficulty?
Job Prospects/Job Types?
Average Income?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Requirements: http://www.monash.edu.au/study/coursefinder/course/1963/domestic-requirements.html

Job prospects are generally very good, apparently radiologists are quite in demand. Umm don't know what you mean by job types. You'll work at hospitals?

I know someone who graduated this year from a similar course at RMIT and he'll earn maybe $35k a year.

The course "Radiography & Medical Imaging at Mon Clayton", is what you do to become a
RadioGRAPHER, however if you do that course and want to do RadioLOGY, how can you do
that then?

Because yes, ninwa is correct "Radigraphers" start at $35k a year, and the job is assist the
radiologist.. however the "Radiologist" starts at $50k a year and can get upto $450k -  $500k
a year by end of career. [I know this data, as my aunty is a radiologst, however she doesn't know how to
do the degree here now...as she did it around 25 years ago]

Yeh I'm enquiring about being a radioGRAPHER, the one that doesn't require you to do medicine. This is the one who performs ultrasounds etc right?

yeah i think so, a radiographer is pretty much an xray technician.

From person who graduated from the equivalent of this course at RMIT (these are direct quotes from MSN, I take no responsibility for them :P):

course difficulty: average
Quote
radiography also known as medical imaging covers physics, anatomy, physiology, pathology, CT, ultrasound and other stuff as well, volume is what makes it hard, pass rate through semester 1 is about 65%
NB: this is the RMIT course, but I can't imagine it being very different at Monash considering both are accredited by the same group

job difficulty:
Quote
a monkey can do their job

job prospects:
Quote
cyclical, though mostly good

job types:
Quote
will depend on what you choose to specialise
you come out being able to do general x-ray, fluro and ct
mri and ultrasound will most likely require further studies, look in the course guide

income:
Quote
we are not medical staff, but technical staff, if you are in it for the money, go elsewhere
typically you will not approach 6 figures
50k is a ballpark

ultrasound will require further studies
certainly i know rmit and monash both offer it as a post-grad degree
the course at both monash and rmit gives you basic qualification to do x-rays, CT and if i remember fluroscopy
x-rays can involve things like dental x-rays as well, though don't hold my word for it

You don't need the UMAT for the Monash course.
I have a friend who just finished first year; her enter score was ~ 92 or something.

edit: she just forwarded an email she got from a course administrator at the start of the year.

Quote
There is no clearly-in ENTER for the Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging. The fringe ENTER for 2009 entry has yet to be confirmed. For 2008 entry, it was 93.2. 95% of student who were offered a place in the course had an ENTER above this score.

In addition to meeting the published prerequisites, current Year 12 applicants must complete the Monash Supplementary Information form.

I hope this information is helpful to you.

Kind regards,

Natalie Seng

Hope that helps :)

Thanks for that, I was wondering why it had RC when you didn't require the UMAT.

Also though, when I searched on Seek radiographers can earn anywhere from $45-$75 per hour???

I once did work experience and one of the ladies doing ultrasound was working 4 days instead of 2 to get a bit of extra pocket money for her trip to Dubai (at a rate or roughly $1000 per day) so why does everyone say 35k?

I'm not saying it's wrong but doing a bit of research the salary is quite attractive with some hospitals accepting new graduates on these salaries.

This is as I posted up before...she must of definetly been a RadiOLOgist.
The degree, you are talking about is where you only earn 35k.

To earn 1000 a day, you have to do Medicine, and then MASTER, into RadiOLOgy!....
This masters degree, is different to the master degree of the course you are talking about..

The degree your talking of is Radiography, not Radiology!!!!!!!!1
