hey i only discovered him just before the exam, but i thought he tended to ramble a bit, and didn't find it particularly useful - what do other people think? of course its an added resource, and free, so better than nothing (and good on him!), but...

hey i only discovered him just before the exam, but i thought he tended to ramble a bit, and didn't find it particularly useful - what do other people think? of course its an added resource, and free, so better than nothing (and good on him!), but...

A few people in my biology class used it this year. However, because of this they were saying stuff like, "I don't need to study I can just listen to Douchy's podcasts" and didn't bother to read their textbooks. They got extremely cocky and got bad results. I found them about a week before my mid-years so I only got to listen to only a few before my exam. I think it's only worth it if you have an ipod as I found it difficult to just sit still on my computer while he rambled on for an hour or a little bit more. I think it would be good if you could listen to it while you walk to school or something like that as we do waste a lot time coming/going to school/places. I didn't find it particularly useful but it's good for revision for making sure you know everything. Podcasts just don't work for me, if you're like me I think for studying it's just better to just only read your textbook as after a while you actually begin to visually imagine the content and pictures in the pages. But that's just me, some people may be better auditory learners.

I got a bit complacent with SACs and work for unit 4 and did very little study so I found myself using them more often for unit 4. Looking back I probably should have done more practice exams for the end-of-year exam as I think unit 4 is less rote learning and more problem solving and requires a slightly different way of thinking.

If you want a copy of Douchy's 2009 podcasts he'll send you them to you on cd for $30 - after you send him an email and deposit the cash into his account.
I just ordered a copy cause you can't seem to download them anymore.

Yeah I gave up on these, I used to listen to them while walking and then I realised it would be easier to be entirely lazy and just read my book.
So I did that instead.

I find it easier to listen than to read (though I enjoy both). Just received the podcasts yesterday, and have listened to the first 4 of them while lying in my hammock in the back yard. Fell asleep during the 5th lecture...

Students shouldn't have to pay for this.
I understand that it's a service, but really you could just record your teacher in class and listen to that on your iPod instead.
It appeared that he was somebody doing a good deed to help out students across the state when it came to their Biology revision, but now I am annoyed.
He can't expect people to pay for something he once provided for free, merely because he's decided it could be a good money making scheme.

How unfortunate.

Hey, If you look at it from his point of view

He's put in how many hundreds of hours into his podcasts over the years? How helpful have they been?
I've spoken to him through email and he spends hundreds of dollars per year just to host the website/podcasts.

The quality of his podcasts are of outstanding quality, something many would pay a LOT for. $30 dollars is well worth it in my opinion.
