I prefer teachers who can teach.

If there are no such teachers who can teach then I will self-learn.

haha, I am a fan of teacher-teacher marriages
for example,

a mainstream English teacher(47+) is divorced with a 10 yr old daughter, she is the worst English teacher there ever with heaps of mood swings - shes even brought everyone to the oval to watch her burying a deadbird - which doesn't really relate to the context of their course syllabus..

also, my ESL teacher (30+) and been dumped by her boyfriend once upon a time, and asserts in class that she hates everyone called James... yeah, nomatter who the person is as long as he's james

and look at those who have a lovely family:

a male teacher @ st kevins (30+) has a lovely family and he is indeed an outstanding teacher who has bcome a successful lecture

So is another ESL teacher(50+) @ my ex-school who's married to another teacher, she's an excellent teacher

My methods teacher(35+) is also married to another maths teacher @ balwyn high and every year she gets half her classes being top achievers.

there's are heaps more..

The health teacher at our school recently married an ex-PE teacher (also from our school) who got kicked out for having sex with students (this was a huge scandal when I was in grade 6). Anyway, I hate health and this teacher who marked me down and commented that I handed in an assignment late when I handed it in like a week early because I went overseas.

Grumpy teachers are normally the best teachers (for me). I think my favourite teachers are 2 grumpy males (one really old and one relatively young), a grumpy female (also old) and a middle aged female who isn't grumpy. But she really knew her stuff since she wrote the textbook we were using so I guess that makes up for her lack of... grumpiness. I think most of them are in a teacher-teacher marriage as well.

haha while young female teachers r better for obvious reasons i still prefer older, more experienced teachers (any gender) who are still teaching cos the love what they do and r good at it, i think this particulary important in VCE years when u really wanna learn properly from someone a bit more "profesional" in what they do.

^ both of you above who said young and female.

my psych teacher was 'young and female', although she was somewhat appealing to most, she was not the best teacher. she was okay but forgot to teach us a few things, like ex, a proper definition of 'visual illusion' that was on the mid year exam.. the one she told us was wrong. grrr

i prefer any teacher male/female, young/old that loves their job, enthusiastic, and teaches us the right stuff in a quick/easy way!

Hmm I don't feel like writing in paragraphs, so I'll write in dot points.

- I love teachers who you can "play" with. I play with my Methods, GMA, Chinese, and Physics teachers and its fun. For example I will ask my GMA teacher random questions like "Do you like boys?" and "Why are you female?" BTW teachers of all genders and ages are equally "playable."

- I don't like it when the teacher just transcribes notes from the textbook which are then transcribed again by students.

- I don't like it when teachers don't give feedback for my essays, and just write "Good."

- I like it when teachers permit me to do whatever I want in their class, even other subjects, and don't pester me into following the rest of the class and doing "what I am supposed to do."

I especially like teachers who are funny, who know what they are talking about and who are good at teaching.  Other than that, it doesn't matter.  :p

I don't think I've ever had a teacher I've disliked though, so yeah.

My all-time favourite primary and high school teachers were both male, and very funny.

in very general terms

probably younger (have a bit more energy and know how to we work) and gender doesn't really matter

although i had an awesome awesome physiology lecturer who was well not old...but i dunno 40+ maybe even 50+ but was very funny but very smart  so eh

it all depends on the individual teacher

It sure does :)

Interesting insights by everybody, to be honest I am really surprised at all the 50+ year old teachers being GOOD and lively etc. I have NEVER in all my life of schooling had this age bracket, so it's interesting

I think you're all insane: clearly the best faculty is comprised of young, smoking hot teachers.

In all seriousness, though... wait. I was being serious. Screw education, I can teach myself.
