^ I'm not up to it yet but I doubt it will be, it'll just take 10-30 minutes of making a random mind-map and sketches to understand.

yeah ok

Depends to what level you want to understand it. I always advise to go beyond the syllabus since it makes the stuff within the syllabus seem like common sense as opposed to a few formulaic rules that you're meant to follow to get the answer.

How did you approach going outside the syllabus?

I've got a few organic chem etc. books from my brother when he did first year science. Would it be worth trying to learn stuff from that lol?

If you're not feeling motivated, it's better not to do anything. This way, you'll take longer to burn out when school begins.

I thoroughly enjoyed my Summer holidays before year 12 - this was only because I went overseas. Otherwise I'd have slaved away during the Summer and I would have burned out even earlier.

It depends on how much work you do consistently throughout the year. You could cover all the courses in your Summer, slack off during the year and not get as great as you hoped. It's better to sometimes enjoy your holidays whilst you can and be really studious throughout the year.

You know what

I think we need to create a thread on this, or use THIS thread.

I really want to hear of high achieving students i.e. ENTER of 85+ (IMO anyway) that have studied right, etc but not OVER THE TOP.

For example Ninwa provided me so much motivation for English by saying "I never did any practice essays except just a plan" yet she got in the 40's

In addition, ILoveMathsMeth provides motivation by saying "I went on holiday during the Dec-Jan holidays" and I will presume she didn't study whilst o/s. This gives such a booster for students who feel "I did no study over the holidays". Yet ILoveMM got in the 90's

We also need to hear people who DIDN'T HAVE TUTORS, for gods sake I know there are tonnes out there, but publisice yourself! You DO NOT need a tutor to achieve extremely well!

So sorry Andrew i am hijacking this thread =P.

Stuff "motivational quotes" they don't work LMAO, >< for me anywyay.

I want real life examples. btw if u would prefer a new theead PM me and ill delete this message ><

I personally didn't do any work for my year 12 subjects during the holidays and still managed to do alright. Most people I know who have done well haven't either. That said, I don't see how it hurts and it definitely could be beneficial, but it's not a prerequisite or even a sure-fire way to doing well.

I did Methods tuition for about half of 2009, and did nothing except school-set stuff for Classics.  'nuff said.  :p

Can I just clarify, I didn't do any practice essays out of my own volition, but sometimes my teacher would say "I want all of you to bring me 2 practice essays by the last class this week" or whatever, then I would have to do some :P
(yes it was a private school, yes it was spoon-feeding, blah blah blah don't wanna hear it >.>)

andrewloppol, I didn't do any holiday work either, not even most of the set holiday homework, and I didn't fail :P I think you should give yourself a break and have some relaxing time. These are really your only holidays this year (the other ones aren't really holidays because you're going to have to work through them) so enjoy them!

I didn't have a tutor for any of my subjects. Sometimes when I felt tired of writing an English/lit essay I just left off writing and never came back to it lol. That way I still 'practiced' writing essays but didn't get myself sick and tired of them. I don't know if this is a legit studying method or just me being lazy. It's most likely the latter. :p

Would you type a quick weekly or nightly routine for your year 12 :P? If you don't mind us seeing how much you worked :)?

Sure. I'll do it and upload it soon :)

Wow, you guys studied very well .... I only did about 2~3 hours a night, including weekends, and did almost no work during holidays ...
