It varies from school to school.  But usually, about 3-6 a semester, I think from memory.

Yeah, indeed it does vary.
Our school had so many that I lost count as each SAC was split up into two or three parts, with each part weighted differently.
But 3-6 sounds about right. There might also be a take-home SAC as well.

Yes, those extended response SACs that were split into 3 parts was so annoying because the school counted them as "separate" SACs when in fact, it was just one massive worded problem SAC.

Our school did 5.

SAC 1: test with short answer and MC questions
SAC 2: Application task (analysis questions, over 3 periods) then validation test
SAC 3: test with short answer and MC questions
SAC 4: extended response questions/short answer questions
SAC 5: extended response questions/short answer questions

Generally you can expect something like this. Most people would study only MC questions etc for SAC 1 if it were on Functions for example. However, if you do this, you might forget to revise the Extended Response applications at some stage. It's best to do whole rounded revision.

Right. So you know the application task, it takes more than one period? So people get to take questions home in their calculator and then ask their friends/tutor as to how to work out difficult questions. Validation test is similar to the actual task and just tests whether the students actually understood what they were doing instead of just copying the working from their friends.

Mmm I had one SAC that took 2 sessions, we were given part 1 in the 1st session, and part 2 in the 2nd session; so there was no opportunity to ask questions.

I had 5. Pretty much the same format as Ilovemathsmeth except without the validation test, and, I had something like 4 40 minute periods for the application task.

0.o because period would incite confusion. This two-part SAC we had, both sessions were after school 4-5:30 PM

I hate after school SACs, I'm so tired then and can't concentrate and thus lose all these stupid marks :(
