The maths was boring.

It was all about perfecting and training yourself into a robot that doesn't make careless mistakes rather than learning.

Agreed.

Agreed.

That pretty much describes every VCE subject.

Maths and sciences are about eliminating careless mistakes and understanding the types of questions that are presented. Upper end english and humanities subjects are differentiated based on how they score against formulaic criteria. Arts subjects aren't about presenting complex ideas but understanding the theory and not making mistakes.

And it shouldn't be like that. It shouldn't be like that at all. I know that I'd rather attain lower raw scores but actually think rather than regurgitating. And I presume that many others are in the same boat.

*sigh*  I miss secretly playing Halo and Counter Strike via the school intranet with mates while trying not to get caught by the teacher during classes.

So before you guys shoot me down for asking this - I will explain my above statement:

In coming back online and reading some of the posts on VCE, I've come to realise how much I really enjoyed the VCE.

I enjoyed the fact that I knew what I was doing at all times - there was nothing exactly "surprising" about the VCE (ie. work hard and then reap the rewards)
I enjoyed my teachers and friends - they were all special and unique; and surprisingly, I even miss teachers who I "disliked" when I was back at school
I miss the atmosphere of school; in particular, the safety of school routine
I miss exploring subjects of interest in a very structured environment (as we all know, what you learn in VCE is only the tip of the iceberg in whatever subject you undertake)
I even miss being intellectually stimulated - I don't feel particularly stretched in reading Harry Potter and watching TV.

Is it just me being ultra-nostalgic, or does anyone else feel that Year 12 was one of the best years they've ever had in their young lives?

There is nothing wrong with this. It took me until the middle of the first semester of uni to sort of stop missing high school. What you said reminds me of myself at this time last year.

The thing is you will always go through these feelings when you go through change. I remember missing grade 6 when I started high school. Basically when you enter uni you will make friends and you will find that you'll enjoy uni and start forgetting about high school.

Nope. Not at all.
I'm glad to be away from some teachers, the assemblies, the house meetings, the house events, the doing up your top button that chokes you slightly even though its C and your neck is all sweaty.

Ehhh whatever, to everybody complaining..... why? Even though I studied my ass off the whole year, it wasn't as stressful as people made it out to be. I loved 2009 and I'm sure many others share my sentiment. Maybe because I actually did other things apart from study. I played tennis twice a week, I went out with friends, I went to countless 18ths. And guess what, I still got a pretty high enter... it wasn't 99.95, but so what? So, of course I miss year 12. I miss the atomsphere, I miss seeing friends everyday, I miss just chilling during lunch (and free periods :P ), I miss the structure, and I miss that feeling you get knowing that other younger kids in lower year levels are looking up to you, and I even miss my teachers. I don't know about anyone else, but I DON'T go to school to JUST learn, nor do I care THAT much about the whole 'minimising errors' type curriculum. Yeah, it may be flawed, and it pissed me off quite a bit at times, but that's where Uni comes in. I just know I'll always look back at what an awesome experience year 12 and 2009 was.
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.

If it's any consulation, you got an ENTER 1.20 above mine (I got 89.45). Look at it this way, you did better than 90.65% of the state. Does that ENTER get you to your top preference? If it does then don't worry.

Everything apart from the ENTER (and English) I loved about VCE.
