im only doing five subjects . how much harder is it to get a good vce score?

There are people out there who get 50s in all 5 subjects taken in one year, so it's definitely possible to do well.

Ugh, my school's pretty shit too. It's really unfair. Most students could only do 1 3&4, most weren't encouraged to do a 3&4 and the only students allowed to take on more than 1 3&4 were from the 'accelerated' class.
Not to sound totally mean, but not all the students in that class deserve to be there.

Think about it, only 10% of your 6th subject counts towards your score. Assuming you get a 35 for that 6th subject, that's only 3.5 extra points. That 3.5 extra points only really makes a difference when you're aiming for scores above 98. You're not majorly disadvantaged, you can still do well with 5 subjects

I didn't do a 3+4 last year either. Why did I choose a 1+2 (in year 10) class that is also electable for year 12 VCAL...Not enough kids stuck around for 3+4 lol. Oh well, my fault.

To the topic starter: There's no point in wondering how disadvantaged you - you're just establishing self-limiting beliefs by seeking the answer to the question. Just do the best job you can =) And forget about supposed "limits" on your performance.

Lots of the mark just comes down to being able to nail the final exam. I know it did for me in English Language, and I ended up with something worse than I was hoping for, but it works the other way for some people too. Then again, if you worked consistently during year 11 on one subject, there's no reason to say why you couldn't complete your best subject that year.

I think why most people do 2 3/4s is out of interests sake. The 3/4 studies tend to be more fascinating (even though they're still quite restricted) than their 1/2 counterparts, so lots of people study higher level courses to stay interested in school.

Basically this was why I did two 3/4s last year. The challenge and competition in 3/4s is better than in 1/2s.
(I also found it helped a lot with working efficiently across all subjects)

It kept me from getting too bored. It's really funny, because I absolutely hated physics 1/2 (I told my 3/4 teacher this year that I was right about to drop it in 2008, and she was aghast). Whilst the 3/4 course isn't amazingly difficult, I found it more interesting, and this slight change really reignited my interest in the subject. I guess it's fair to say I'm really happy I kept it on. I guess it's good for my VCE, and plus, I have physics camp tomorrow!
