hahaa yeah, sometimes if i can't turn the page, i'd turn it a few bars in advance or just memorise a little behind.
what's more annoying is the flip/woosh sound when you turn the page :D
and sometimes if i listen to the recording too many times, i get more sick of it haha! not to mention i wasn't sick of the piece to begin with.
Yeah, that's what I do too... I memorised most of my pieces, but when pieces have parts (like the Romanian Folk Dances) the page turns weren't much of a problem, because there's meant to be a slight break between each dance anyway. In my lower grades, I stuck a photocopied version of each page I needed to the actual book so I ended up having to not turn pages but there was a long line of sheets! :P

lol, that must be wayy embarrassing but you can't afford to make a slip in a dip exam xD
i'm sure i can improvise my way out, but the examiner would have the music with him right?

I can't actually remember if I brought in a copy of music for the examiners, I don't think I did, but people who examine diploma exams are pretty pro and will know most of the syllabus anyway (unless you're playing something obscure/20th century).

My teacher's an examiner and they don't care so much about slips, if they are small ones and you recover in a professional way. At that level they care more about musicality and performance skills. He's passed plenty of people who've had minor memory lapses...

Oh yeah, I used to do that too ;)
when I was in lower grades there would be a max of 4 pages on the piano stand

i'm playing rach for my 20th cent piece, haha but i might be changing to bartok/debussy or something :/
when i mentioned slip, i mean slip as in, a sudden blanking out and pausing for a moment and then only playing again after you remembered the parts after where you stopped. will be really awkward and ruins the quality of the performance :S

Yeah, and when I got to higher grades, there'd be 10 + pages on the stand and it'd start looking funny and falling off so I gave up and started using display folders and books ;)

Yeah, my teacher (when I was learning piano) was an examiner too. They know their stuff well :)
You don't pause with memory lapses, it's best to just skip forward a few bars and continue playing (good recovery).

Lots of people also stick their music on scrapbooks - easier to scribble/highlight on. By the time my exam came around, you could barely see any white on my Chopin piece - so much highlighting!!

I'm not a believer of scrapbooks, too fiddly :)
Now I use my computer a lot as well, although scrolling is a nuisance

How can you use your computer to view the manuscript when you're playing any instrument... don't you use a stand?

OMG I thought my teacher was the only one who highlights all over the music!

By the time I've worked on a piece for a while, every lesson 5 minutes is spent on trying to find a colour he hasn't used before *sigh* and I swear he has a highlighter factory, they're all over the floor, in boxes, on the piano, in the piano...

i thought that using highlighters would make it too "outstanding"...

i never believed in scrapbooks too - too much of a hassle D: i use display folders but i have a random stack of piano music probably about 8cm thick.
as for orch scores, i file them neatly after the programme, probably 'cause i doubt i would ever practise them again unless being asked to do so :P

if i'm lazy to print out scores, using the com's good too! :D

I do, for sheet music
If you angle the stand down a bit, you can put a laptop on it
Or I use the desktop computer sometimes :)

Neither, I don't see the point of it :)
Although at orchestra, I sometimes wish I had a highlighter...

LOL if you even try to put a laptop on my flimsy stand, it would most likely fall off, and the stand would probably fall from unbalance too.
Highlighters are good - they really catch your eye, and doesn't a piece covered with a plethora of all the colours of the rainbow make you want to practice it?
