I was wondering if anyone on here continued with music outside of school during year 12?
If you did, did you find it hard to find time to practice?

FYI im going to continue with piano next year but am having second thoughts, but i really want to finish all the grades (up to grade 8) as im almost there already...

and if i stop im not sure if ill ever go back :(

I've got a friend who continued doing AMusA last year. To do well in Grade 8 and above, you'll need to put in a painstaking effort (to take a live example, my friend spent at least 2 hours practising each day, which consumed A LOT of his study/homework time).

I did Grade 7 in Year 12, Grade 8 in first year and will be doing AMusA this year.

With the heavy school/uni workload, I still managed at least 1 hour practice per weekday, 2 hours per weekend and 1 hour lesson per week.

To me, music is a passion rather than learning just to get the grades done, and that probably motivated me to keep going on

Yay for perfectionism!!! Seriously though, if you stress about the music while you're practising, then it's taking your mind of study, which is great!

I practised every day, partly as a procrastination tool, partly for a change from the endless studying, and partly because I still had concerts and stuff organised :P

Far from detracting from your study time, I think it is actually an effective way to break the monotony and keep your motivation and interest up.

Though of course if it stresses you out too much, probably best to give it a break.
