Seriously, I think it's more a correlation between the type of people in both smart and muso categories, rather than them helping each other (they do, but probably not much)

I've got a friend who continued doing AMusA last year. To do well in Grade 8 and above, you'll need to put in a painstaking effort (to take a live example, my friend spent at least 2 hours practising each day, which consumed A LOT of his study/homework time).

Yeah, I had to quit piano because it took up too much time - like in my AMus year, I had to do 4 hours on school days (from 3-4 months before the exam) and 7 hours on holidays/weekends. Although I only did 2 earlier in the year That'd probably kill my VCE if I did that in year 11 or 12!

Yeah, I'm with ninwa, I only did about an hour a day up till about two weeks before, then my practice time ballooned out to about 3 hours (a lot for me )
Actually, I found that not practising the three days before really helped, I didn't burn out like a lot of people do from too much last-minute practice.

But yes, no Beethoven violin for me, I'm playing lots of Romantic period music

Yeah, that was bad. But I managed to get a comfortable pass... everything was great apart from my Romanian Folk Dances which sucked as usual.

I agree, my AMus was in year 8
LMus in violin, it's my main instrument (I only played piano for about a year, got up to about grade 4 pieces)
