I'll still be doing music in year 12 (music captain ftw!), and I'll also be playing in the Melbourne Youth Orchestra with the.watchman again :)

Argh, I'm going to be so distracted from year 12...

I noticed quite a lot of high scorers that do play musical instruments. Is there any connection or just a coincidence?

Well the skills required to be high achievers in both are similar (hard work, patience etc.)

Also apparently music helps improve mathematical skills --> better spesh scores --> awesome scaling --> awesome ENTER?

Really?! I'm going to practice now!!! :D

Seriously, I think it's more a correlation between the type of people in both smart and muso categories, rather than them helping each other (they do, but probably not much)

Don't ever play gaythoveen, playing his shit music will only make you more stressed :P

Very funny, a lot of his music is actually really nice to listen to (funny that! :P)
Play Chopin, Debussy and Rach instead :)

I've got a friend who continued doing AMusA last year. To do well in Grade 8 and above, you'll need to put in a painstaking effort (to take a live example, my friend spent at least 2 hours practising each day, which consumed A LOT of his study/homework time).
Yeah, I had to quit piano because it took up too much time - like in my AMus year, I had to do 4 hours on school days (from 3-4 months before the exam) and 7 hours on holidays/weekends. Although I only did 2 earlier in the year :D That'd probably kill my VCE if I did that in year 11 or 12!

o.O I did less than that for my L.Mus

Yes I believe there's actually been research supporting that

Haha that was only starting from 3-4 months before my exam when I was highly screwed, a year before my exam I'd only do an hour a day :)

Yeah, I'm with ninwa, I only did about an hour a day up till about two weeks before, then my practice time ballooned out to about 3 hours (a lot for me ;))
Actually, I found that not practising the three days before really helped, I didn't burn out like a lot of people do from too much last-minute practice.

I don't play piano :P
But yes, no Beethoven violin for me, I'm playing lots of Romantic period music :)

Lol I took the week off before my exam and kept practicing and I had a lot of AMEB rehearsals and lessons that week, basically left it til the last night before my exam to memorise my g.k so that kinda killed me - I had 2 hours of sleep the night before my exam which wasn't very good and I ended up so sleepy that I almost skipped the 3rd movement of my sonata LOL. Yeah, that was bad. But I managed to get a comfortable pass... everything was great apart from my Romanian Folk Dances which sucked as usual. :D

Good on you!
My LMus was in the middle of the September holidays, which helped heaps
Although I did take a few days off school, for fun every now and then :P
And I was sick for the three days before, so I couldn't cram the practice in (I only practised about 20min on the day)
General knowledge wasn't too bad, I sort of prepared speechs/rants/rambles so that I could keep talking :D

I had my AMus in year 8, anything later than that I would've been too busy with school and everything :D
Well done with your LMus, what instrument?

I agree, my AMus was in year 8 :D
LMus in violin, it's my main instrument (I only played piano for about a year, got up to about grade 4 pieces)
