There is a similar discussion going on here so maybe you could take a look there and see if that helps.  :)

Im looking at Arts/Law at either Monash or Deakin. If you do well in these courses you can go to UoM for further study, though you dont NEED to.

Arts/law if you can get in because...

The JD course is fundamentally exactly the same as the LLB

If you do Arts then JD at UoM, do you have to do the LSAT this year or the year before you finish Bachelor of Arts?
Hmm...next year already. Well better set my goals and all...(raw)

doesnt it take about half the time to do JD than LLB?
so how exactly are they the same?

Doesn't JD take longer due to having to do a BoA or BoC?

I believe it's because you have to do an undergraduate degree before you can do your JD, which increases the duration by 3 years without actually having any relevance to the degree.

yeah, so having a JD means you have been at uni (including undergrad) for about the same time as an LLB but only 1 or so years is relavant to law
unless JD is just very intense and fast tracked etc?

So If I did arts at UoM would I be guaranteed a place in the JD after I graduated? Would I need to keep up a certain average? Would I be guaranteed a CSP or a full fee place?
How many years does it take to complete the JD?

For Melb Uni graduate courses (including JD):
Guaranteed full fee place: ENTER: 99.00
Guaranteed CSP: ENTER: 99.90

There are other CSP available, these are given based on uni average, a personal essay and LSAT score (for JD).

I'd prefer to do the arts degree first because I'd prefer to get a broader education first and also because you then have the time to think about your future and what you want to do, but it depends on your priorities. Also, Melbourne's ranked higher for humanities and social sciences. I believe you'd also be able to do more arts subjects but I have no proof. The JD takes three years
2009- National Politics (43) Methods (38)
2010- Economics (50) English (44) Literature (38) Introductory Microeconomcis (86) Introductory Macroeconomics (75)

i would just be scared of doing arts but then failing to get into JD
from what ive heard a stand alone arts degree doesnt really give u a lot in terms of job prospects
