so heres the deal, Im filling out the enrollment thing and its asking me for my tax file number. I don't have a tax file number, so that means I cant get that discount for the hecs help until I get one. Can I just use my dad's TFN? or will I have to do this:

If you are applying for a TFN for the purpose of obtaining a HECS-HELP loan and it is within one month before the relevant census date, you should request the Tax Office to issue you a Certificate of application for a TFN. If you haven’t received your TFN within 10 days before the census date, you should provide this certificate to your provider as proof that you have applied, and then quote your TFN once you receive a Tax file number advice from the Tax Office.

You will need to get your own as it will be recorded against your personal tax file number.

You don't need your TFN straight away. You can apply for one and then you can go hand it in like the message says.

Yeah, you just have to apply, then hand in the letter saying you've applied, then tell them your TFN once you receive it.

So, since I cant get my TFN yet, that means I wont be able to enroll with monash yet, because the WES form is asking for the number. Does this mean Im screwed cos I have to be enrolled online before I go to get my ID etc?

Don't Panic!
The TFN is NOT compulsory at this point; it can be supplied at a later date. Just leave that part of the form blank. You can still enrol.

I would imagine that you need to provide your TFN before census date though.

Why can't you get a TFN? It only takes a couple of weeks to process.

Yes as long as it is in before the census date. However if you don't have it by then you take a certificate proving you have applied for one(Before the census date) and you just give them your TFN when you get it.
