can people post up some tips etc?
also, what are your thoughts on the TSFX programs as she is doing them for specialist, chemistry, physics, and english?
do you think she has too many tutors?
do you think it is a wise decision to start Unit 4 chemistry and physics a long period before the mid years are over?
is it ok to start trial exams very early? ie. february-march.
can anyone recommend good programs for the UMAT?

thanks you all in advance

More work is never a bad thing so long as you don't kill yourself and so long as you think you can handle it.  Some of the people I know who got 99+ worked incredibly hard year-wide and reaped the rewards; this often involved knowing the course material far ahead of time and doing a LOT of tuition.

- i would focus on midyears before midyears, and probably only look at end of years (for subjects with midyears) after that. obviously subjects with only end of year exams are different.
- if she can afford tuition (both economically and in regards to time) then may as well go for it. i didn't get tsfx tutoring for english, but my personal opinion would be that the help it would give would be very limited. to improve your english, one-on-one would be best, as tsfx would just offer more of the same classroom-style learning (which is of limited assistance for subjects like english)
- practice exams are golden in terms of improving marks. however, there is no point doing them before she fully knows and understands the whole course the exam is testing. the danger of doing practice exams too early would be that a) she would not develop an in-depth understanding of the course (which may be needed for surprise questions), but rather a two-dimensional knowledge based on what has been examined previously (which is by no means comprehensive); b) she may run out of enough practice exams to do when they will be most helpful, in the weeks leading up to exams; and c), that much of the experience she may gain from doing said exams in march could be forgotten by the june exams, and certainly by end of years.

as had been said by a few others, she also wants to make sure she doesnt burn out... which does happen!
hope this helps :) wish her luck and post any more queries here, or pm me

do you think she has too many tutors?

This very much depends on how she operates in terms of learning. Does she learn best when hearing things from others? Does she like to get ahead of class? If she is more self-orientated in her learning and very hard working, then having too many tutors for subjects in which they aren't needed may be unsuitable. If not, then tutors can get her to focus. It also depends on how much she's understanding her subjects.

Yes (but get to it asap, don't leave it too late where it could conflict with midyear prep), yes (but only if she's got the concepts all laid in concrete), check out some of the medicine/UMAT forums

Just a warning, ICARUS college or sumthing like that, is a UMAT prep course, but its run by sum dude who like went to court or sumtihng for copying other companies material (not 100% sure though what exactly he was charged for but he WAS found guilty).

Heres an interesting article ==> http://www.theage.com.au/news/national/teens-warned-on-medical-courses/2007/05/25/1179601670582.html
