Yeah, what basically happens is VTAC apply for you to all the courses you have on your preferences. Then VTAC will receive offers from these unis. Then VTAC will take the offer which is highest preference and that's the one you get.

e.g. ENTER of 99
1) Arts - Melbourne
2) Arts/science - Monash
3) Law - Monash

You will get offers for all 3 courses - but the one you see on offers day will be the Arts at UoM because that's your highest preference.

This is why it's a little bit pointless putting courses with higher ENTER requirements below those with lower requirements, because no matter what you'll never get a chance at being offered the higher ENTER course

Ahh okay, I understand now. Thanks

After you get your ENTER you would have a week to change your preferences. If you don't change them to be more suitable to your ENTER, and you don't get any offers - then I think you would have to lodge an "irregular offer".
See here and here(scroll down to 'Irregular offers').

I think I will need to apply for an irregular offer... Don't think I will get the ENTER for my course :(

This sounds like a misunderstanding of the system. Why wouldn't you just assign a 'safety net' course lower in your preferences? For example, I set Science at Monash as my 8th (lowest for me) preference, just in case I got some really low ENTER.

You can still aim to get 95+ for some difficult course, fail to get 95+, then get your next preference. Irregular offers are for people who did not get any offer due to all of their preferences requiring too high scores, or because they wish to relinquish their current offer for another course they either did not previously consider, or one they ranked with a lower preference (i.e.: you get a Medicine offer 1st preference, and then realise you want to do Commerce 2nd preference - or perhaps it wasn't on your preferences at all!)

Anyway, there is change of preference week for any preference tweaks that may be required after you get your results.

Are you able to do your preferences now and then change them later (before the closing date)?

Not for Applications. When I did my application, it said you need a $5 fee to alter the application in any way [before change of preference of course].

Nah you can, you have to wait like 3 days for the payment to clear before you can though. It says so in the VTAC guide

As for the clearly in Enters stated last year, are they actually a good indication of the clearly-in ENTER this year? In addition which courses are more likely ask for higher ENTER's this year or are in more demand?

No one can be really certain.

Some courses have very little changes in demand while others like Engineering @ Monash increased significantly last year comapred to 2006

Usually they are pretty accuarate though.. maybe 10% of courses experience a change significant enough to effect a lot of people applying for it based on the previous years ENTER

So a 95.6 is a fair indication of clearly-in ENTER for Commerce in melb uni, this year?
