Why are there so many activists on uni campuses anyway? I know that there are a few out and about in the general public, but one time at Melb Uni I was accosted by a "justice for palestine" jerk and a Marxist jerk within about 5 mins. (Hilariously, the Marxist guy tried to sell me something.) They're everywhere... reasons? I guess people feel "ideologically liberated" from their parents etc etc around uni age, but it seems strange to me still.

[my theory] Usually it's to just try and make friends or do something. Most of them probably follow a herd mentality. [/my theory]

This reminds me of an add where a guy becomes a treehugger just to try and meet a girl he likes.

I'm guessing because:
- they're older and "understand" politics more (debatable)
- going to uni is a big step and they feel like big kids now and therefore gain more confidence to push their views around
- they're more free to voice their views (imagine trying to be an activist in high school, you'd probably get laughed away by your fellow classmates)
- lots of activist groups in uni; when you're around people with the same ideas, you gain more confidence to start broadcasting them to the world

Antonio Gramsci. An Italian Marxist from the 60s, whose mission (which seems to have succeeded) was to make being an extreme leftist the coolest thing for young people. i should find out a bit more about that.

If you don't understand a particular point that the lecturer has just made, then you can ask him to clarify it (though in big lectures this can be a pretty intimidating thing to do).
If you don't understand the whole lecture, don't make yourself look stupid. Ask the lecturer at the end of the lecture for help, or ask your friends.

Fashion Lol: The Asian chicks who come in their giant heels and clubbing clothes... I don't really understand why they do it (vertically challenged?), but they look like idiots.

Those stories (yes, plural -_-) are for enwiabe to tell if he chooses :P

Sadly, it seems to be a trend amongst Asian chicks to dress up like they're going clubbing and have enough makeup on to supply me for an entire year...

(DOES NOT INCLUDE ME! I DON'T OWN CLUBBING CLOTHES and I only wear heels to work!)

Also remember:

- Stfu in lectures  :-X
- If you don't understand something, write it down and ask someone at the end of the lecture
- Bring your own lecture notes if you want them
- Don't put your feet up on the seat in front of you
- Don't kick the seat in front of you
- Girls should not giggle at random times during lectures  :idiot2:

Okay, so just to clarify: we can't talk at all during lectures? Because according to humph:
Quote
If you don't understand a particular point that the lecturer has just made, then you can ask him to clarify it (though in big lectures this can be a pretty intimidating thing to do).

But according to edmund:
Quote
- Stfu in lectures  Lips Sealed
- If you don't understand something, write it down and ask someone at the end of the lecture

Does this depend on the size or tone of the lecture, at all?
Would it also be advisable to avoid compulsively answering every question in a tute?
