Lets put it this way, i absoultely SUCK at biology, i just cant seem to understand the concepts, which means i will have ALOT of stupid questions, so i hope you guys will be able to help me throughout the year :D

QUESTION ONE:
Before the introduction of genetically engineered insulin for the use of people with diabetes, the protein hormone was extracted from beef or pig pancreas.  Explain how you would extract the sequence of amino acid in the beef and the pig insulin to compare with that of humans.

maybe in 'Explain how you would extract the'  instead of 'extract', you meant 'expect'
?

if so, then the AA sequence would be exactly the same cuz its the same protein.

^ LOL it actually is expect. aahahaha my badd, thanks

well i have another question. haha

A particular small polypeptide contains nine amino acids.  The polypeptide has been fragmented in various experiments by breaking particular peptide bonds.  The fragments obtained were:

ser-cys-his-pro-arg-cys
pro-arg-cys
X-gly-met-cys
his-pro-arg-cys
X-gly-met-cys-ser-cys

X is known to be the first amino acid in the polypeptide.  What is the primary structure of the polypeptide?

man that was a weird q.  i get it though.

and heinmann book is the same......no answers!
they make you go on the site to get them, to which the teacher gives you a password so you can access it, which doesn't fucking work!

stupid invalid password.  what is the point of doing questions if you don't know if you are doing them right.  maybe get a biozone student book.  it has questions that correspond to virtually all textbooks, and you can buy the answer booklet with it if you want for like $10 extra.

i guess the only reason they didn't do that is because.. answers are mostly in sentence form
but they should direct us there :idiot2:

yeah the questions are hard, but the answer book is good.  it has the full detailed answers.  at least you can go to them as reference haha.

and we did an experiment for our first class.  i successfully fail at using a microscope.  :(

i too hate how sacs are based on pracs. i think almost all our schools bio sacs are prac writeups. they are really easy to do well on though... for everyone... which is silly.
