i've seen this question pop up soooo many times everywhere.. hah
you can use your laptop to take notes in lectures :) most people don't though (from what i've read)

Don't buy those pens. If you have an urge to throw $300 away, give it to some homeless guy.

my laptop broke down halfway through last year and I lost 2 years worth of work

so it's definitely still possible >_>
