Extending the Winter Break

Just a question for those who can answer: would I be able to extend the winter break by a week or so? Do I miss out on much in the first week back? Is the uni strict with this? I'm only asking because my family and I are going overseas for a holiday and we need to book tickets very very soon. I've asked the uni (the commerce center) and they said that I could probably get away with it but that it wasn't advisable.

And before you say anything about this, yes I've thought about just waiting until my exam timetable comes out and booking then, but unfortunately we can't wait that long to book the tickets.

Thanks for any help :)

First week at university is the easiest week possible, no tutorials (which are generally marked) and the lectures are all introductions to the subject.

All the introduction lectures will be available to view and listen to online, so as long as you spend a few hours on the weekend or beginning of second week catching up, it will be no problem.

And no, no one at uni cares if you are present or not lol

Like seriously, no one.

worst thing that would happen is that you miss out on a bit of general info about the subject, and you miss one lecture worth of info. the first tutes won't be worth attending if ur doing commerce subs.

Lol samuch no problem :P

No tutes and having access to the lectures online is great news! I mean, of course I'd have to catch up when I get back, but it's worth sacrificing it for my holiday. I'm guessing I'd be pushing it for 2 weeks though? Haha

Not really, it's first year commerce. The only problem would be missing out on the first tutorial...which is pretty useless normally, but you *may* lose a mark.

ALTHOUGH that's not to say that all first year's shouldn't go to the first week tutes (if there are any). Apart from general subject info, it's also important to strike up friendly relationships with the best looking girls (/guys) so that you're able to sit with them in that tute for the rest of the semester. Keep this wise word of wisdom in the forefront of your minds young one's.

Yeah nobody will care if you aren't present at lectures or tutes. Just check if tutorial attendance is a marked thing.

If where you are going has Internet access, then you can download the podcast and listen to it.
