I could alternatively go on Saturday afternoon though - is the expo entertaining enough to stay a full day or is half a day plenty to explore the whole premises?
I guess it would depend on whether you want to go to any of the seminars on offer
Are the seminars just promotional, or do they actually teach something?

I would imagine that they are mostly promotional, but might give you some interesting information.

I think I'll just go on Sunday... Saturday afternoon could be better spent doing geometry :) And most of the seminars on Saturday are on Sunday too anyway.

SUNDAY

Yay, Macquarie University staff are going to be there :)
What is the other university approved by the Institute of Actuaries Australia apart from UniMelb, Macq, ANU and UNSW? The only approved uni in Melbourne is Melbourne Uni though... why is everything in Sydney??

Keep in mind that some of those info sessions are also advertising sessions.  Although somewhat useful, the presenter will also try to advertise their company and their upcoming events.

Are they more info or advertising sessions? Because I'm not wasting a day listening to people promoting their company...

They'll probably give you little snippets of info, then tell you to pay for their services.
I'm not sure how useful they will be :)

It'll mostly be an info session as advertised.  Take NEAP Chemistry as an example.  For the first 5-10 minutes or so, they'll tell you "trivial stuff" like how is assessment is broken up, what the exam is, etc.  Then they'll talk about chemistry.  The level will be relatively easy and if you are a capable student, you might end up leaving the presentation.  I remember a few people left here and there so if you do feel the need to leave, don't worry.

Also, if you want a seat, you might want to get there early because the seats tend to be taken pretty fast.

In 2008 and 2009 when I went, they weren't actually rooms.  It was in the grandstand and they had these barriers separating the presentations so they look like a "room".  But you'll find that some presenters can be quite loud and you might be able to hear the person from the next "room".  Don't worry though, it's not as bad as I've described.  You'll enjoy it.

LOL aren't the seminars indoors and the stalls outdoors?

They were all indoors, except for two things which I can't really remember.  I think one was the police ambulance.
