Yeah, how can you think if you have music playing... maybe it's just me but my brain tries to visualise the maths symbols and stuff but when I have music playing my mind visualises the lyrics and shit

but yeah if it's just regular VCE maths i always listen to music

Maybe it's just me, but music helps me to focus on the task at hand (don't ask me how that works)
It seems similar to how a lot of mathematicians can't work if their desk is too tidy; it defies logic.
Also, I don't like working when my room is too quiet :P

My desk is pretty tidy,my maths working out used to be neat (using rulers for square roots and shit)

but now after following kamil's advice to forget about neatness and focus on thinking bout the question at hand, my workings are messy as (drawing rainbows when expanding infinite products and shit)

LOL, my desk is a mess, I think I just found some dead batteries and some concert tickets from a few years back under some stuff...
I really need to clean up!

My desk has crap all over it all of the time. I do homework in the dining room table though. Music is good for Maths/Accounting, but it stops me from concentrating, say if I'm reading something for English.

Yeah, I can understand reading, I would never listen to music while reading (unless it's reading like the newspaper etc.)
