I've walked around the ANU campus a fair bit and it's really beautiful. There are large stretches of grass and open spaces to relax at. There is also quite a bit of wildlife, like ducks, parrots and other birds, and you can walk fairly close to them without them running away. Can't think of a better campus to live at.
The buildings don't look that flashy, but they're pretty decent - anyway is that really important? However they are constructing a massive new science facility which is gonna be awesome.
As for the quality of the degrees... well, it's only the national university of Australia.

(And there's plenty of free booze at the Hall parties)

Monash has double degrees and Melbourne is discontinuing their engineering. This year was their last year for new engineering student intake. Also "The Melbourne Model" wtf is up with that shit.

Monash is better than Melbourne because it has a proper IT faculty.

I can't think of anything else really. If only the buildings weren't so incredibly ugly.
Monash has a fucking Synchrotron across the road!

Monash's physics building feels like home. I've spent so much time there...

That said, I don't think I'll be going to Monash.
\o/ lets hang out.
Wait what?

I've spent quite a bit of time in the Monash physics buildings (trust me...), but I don't think I'll end up going to Monash next year. Might though. :)

melbourne model is designed to make money. anyone looked at the price of a post-grad degree at melbourne? (which you would need, having got some quasi-useful undergrad degree under the melbourne model)

not that it's really about the money for the student, and once earning it'll seem insignificant, but heres for reference:
science/law at monash: 5 years x ~$6000 = $30 000
Science at melb + JD (law) at melb = 3 years x ~$3 500 + 3 years x $28 800 = $96 900

... assuming you get CSP (%50 of students)

sooo yeah three times as much profit for the uni, one extra year for the students.... inefficient AND expensive.

btw synchrotron ftw...

Is the free booze only beer? I hate the taste of beer

Does UoM even have an IT faculty?

I wouldn't so much as call it a debate than petty name calling.

At the end of the day, both Monash and Melbourne are well recognised universities, sought after by employers and both virtually unknown to anyone outside Victoria, let alone the world.
