Was it cross-marked?

Yep :D By 5 different teachers actually ha.
It must've been an EPIC intro + paragraph + conclusion.

Lol yeah, can you ask your 'friend' if you can have a look at her essay?

Have you actually seen what this girl wrote? Have you actually seen what the other people who completed a 'full' essay wrote? There could be quite a lot of difference between how well these pieces met the outcomes for which the task was marked against.

Given the fact that it has been cross marked by 5 teachers suggests that her piece was worthy of the mark it received. And given that another student is going to speak to the coordinator about it, any 'favouritism' will be addressed.

Despite what many students think during their "omg I'm in year 12 and this is so stressful and it's so unfair" year, teachers really are NOT out to sabotage your results. Spend more time and energy on achieving the best results that you can produce.

In our school due to its public status, the papers that get crossed marked are those who failed (D) or A+. So last year I got three C+ because the teacher didnt like me and I didnt get cross marked. But this year I sit at the front and just suck up to the teacher cos VCE > getting on the bad side of a retard teacher

My teacher was telling us that if we were running out of time, write down quotes/dot points of what we were originally going to write. Then put in a full conclusion and it's not unheard of to get pretty high marks this way. Not that you should use this method unless you were completely desperate.

Don't worry about it. That's why there is moderation. She's got no chance of getting a high mark if she does exactly the same work (intro and a body para) in the exam.

Derived scores..

Haha, unfortunately we can't get our essays back. They're in 'special' folders.

Moderation only works if everyone is marked by the same standards within a cohort.

^ that's why i love it though.  there's no real harm in helping people from other schools.  won't effect your result.  but helping people in your own class is kinda like shooting yourself in the foot!

Yeah, this place is great.

helping people in your own class is kinda like shooting yourself in the foot!

Not really, helping friends, in my eyes, can only be beneficial. Helping them learn cannot put you at a disadvantage; you can't give them insight you yourself are unaware of, and hopefully in return they will help you, which is actually an advantage. Higher ranking =/= better results.

Moreover, in the exam they should retain your help, so even if your help placed them above you in rankings, their increased exam performance will more than compensate. As everyone has become better your cohort's exam performance distribution has increased; leading to better moderation.

Also, they're your friends, not helping them is mean.

When I refer to helping friends, I mean teaching them so they understand. Helping them cheat is a whole other question.

Actually if you helped your friends towards the EXAM your school cohort might go up! So ineffect it could possibly benefit you. But yeh I find that when Im helping my friend they ask me questions even I dont know so I learn something.

of course i help my friends, (even in tests sometimes haha!)  i meant randoms more or less.  probably because i'm in adult learning, everyone just seems to be really competitive...

Yeah, there is the dodgy method of helping your class after the SAC, in order to secure first ranking. Assuming they perform better in the exam, that would give you a major advantage; though, at the same time, it is incredibly sly. Just give yourself and everyone else the best possible chance; as I pointed out earlier, your moderated SAC mark can only increase given no one performs worse in the exam or SAC's.

I only help people I know will still get lower than me. Teaching someone also helps me learn a concept even better.
