Every time I went to a revision lecture last year there was some annoying asian group there. Mostly girls and they would talk loud and always laugh and always talk a mix of English and whatever other language they spoke. I think racism was just something insulting they could pull out (as they don't even know you). I imagine if it was a group of Caucasians they would have insulted them as well (I probably would have lol)

On a similar racist note: Can't remember what VN member has this blog but it is so full of hate towards whites

I don't think it's hate to whites, it's hate for racists, which is fair enough.

To be honest, I find asian/international students the worst when it comes to talking in lectures. This *may* be because I do a course in which 70%+ are asian, but it's just extreeeeeemely distracting especially when they talk in other languages. There was some asian chick who sat next to me with her friend half way through a lecture during the week.. And did not stop talking the whole time. Fair to say I was fairly pissed off by the end. I've never really had a massive problem with any local people, but again that might be because of my course.

Yes it's probably uncalled for for them to label you all "international" students, but let me tell you it's bloody annoying to put up with.

Like ReVeL I've found that international students and asians talk the most and the loudest in lectures.

It's pretty rude to talk when other people are trying to learn. I've had lecturers stop the lecture because people were talking and it's damn annoying because as soon as the lecturer starts talking again they start talking as well. If you come in late and you want to talk just wait until the end of the lecture. It's not even an hour long if you come in late. It was wrong for them to label you all international students but I don't think its 'racist'.

+1, happened twice this week. Why on earth would you bother attending lectures if you talk the ENTIRE TIME.

Hmmm that's not really the case here, I think international students can have a hard time understanding what the lecturer is saying, so usually when they talk it's because they need to clarify what's being said. But they don't talk much.

I'm not sure if it was racism or not.. there are very few truely racist people left.

I see people misuse the word all the time and say "thats racist!" for small things where people don't even mean it.

Maybe it was just because you guys were talking

Not really a good idea lol

I think it's a pretty massive and silly generalisation to say that Asian/international students talk the most. In my experience, race has nothing to do with it. I've had annoying people of every race chattering in my ear and they should all be shot/castrated/banned from tertiary education.

However I really really REALLY can't stand it when people stand around talking loudly in their own language (although it's fun to eavesdrop on the Chinese-speaking ones)... it's so friggin' rude.

Kinda OT, but I fucking hate it when people start talking in their own language around you so you don't understand what they're talking about and they make it soo obvious they're talking about you because they keep looking at you.
I find that a lot of Viets (not international students, Aussie born Viets) I know do this and it's so bitchy and rude.

Yeah, I knew there was more to it. The OP just sounded like you guys waltzed in late and chatted in Viet through the entire lesson while they did nothing (which is completely rude and you don't sound like a rude person :)). Should have just asked em if they had a problem or something, no point annoying someone who will be in your class for the rest of the year.
