Relax...its only first year!

hey!
Entering uni, i would think everyone would be relaxed, taking it easy and having fun... But i was completly WRONG!
All the people i've meet are still studying extremely HARDCORE!...like going to the library to study during their breaks... preparing for lectures, reading extra books, and attentively listening to the lectures.
It's driving me insane... and its kinda scaring me too.. cause i feel so dumb and careless.
Should i wake up a bit and be like the rest? or continue to fully bludge?

I am fairly relaxed, listening to lectures online with the lecture notes, doing MTH1030 Project if I have time, doing assignments, lab work and shit...blah blah. I went to most of my 1st week lectures but haven't been since. Well... if you go 3 days a week like me then you should feel relaxed.  8-)

in saying that, uni is still way more relaxing than vce :)

For me, I don't think "relaxing" would be the word to describe it.  It's pretty much the same workload as in VCE and mentioned about a billion times, at a much faster pace.  The "relaxing" bit I suppose is that there's no one to push you, there's no one to tell you when the due dates are and really, no one gives a flying noodle - not even your friends.

If you want to graduate with first class honours, you have to work hard all the way!

Actually, I'm not sure. I've been meaning to ask people what are the requirements for first class honours. Could someone share this info?

But yeah, I think it's true that a lot of people are still working hard. It's really up to the individual, though. The way I see it: you've finished VCE and have secured your course. Just don't do so bad that you get kicked out of it.

Yeah you can still relax and have fun and get a HD, you just need to make sure you don't fall behind.

Yeah its pretty easy to fall behind. You don't have to attend lectures just make sure you listen/watch them if they're recorded and keep up with the work.

In Australia, Honours is generally an extra year that you do. To be able to get into that Honours year, you must have (generally) Distinction average on your third year subjects that related to that major (so, if you want to do Immunology Honours, you must have gotten on average Ds in the third year IMM subjects). In the Honours year, you will do a minor thesis, and some bits and bobs of coursework (often research method/statistics related). From there when all the coursework and thesis work is marked, you'll be allocated into grades from First Class Honours down to Third Class Honours. If you don't do Honours, then you end up with an Ordinary Degree.

The exception to this is Law, Engineering and Medicine (although Med generally has a BMedSc course which is in effect the same thing.)

Yeah I may be possibly relaxing too much. But with one assignment due tomorrow and three next week, this week will be hectic.
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.
