What do you mean "synthetic divide" and how would you use long deviding to derive this funciton, sorry i fail at maths

Okay, I do agree that is ALSO correct,
however in an non cas situation, if they had asked you to sketch it aswell,
as they most likely would,  It is difficult to gain asymtopes, shape etc? ...from your one.

If Im wrong let me know ASAP

If required to sketch you should DEFINITELY divide. But if it you just had to find the equation of the inverse, then this would be the superior method as it saves time and leaves less room for error.

not that difficult, just do some limits and you're fine, but yes generally it's easier to get the feeling of the graph by long dividing it.

You can find asymtotes easily i think by, seeing that the bottom cant equal zero so x cant be and because the x at the top is negative it means the asymtote will be at negative 1 so asymtotes are at and  

Correct me if im wrong...

Where b is the base, a is the 'answer' and p is the power to which the base is raised.

So you can read as "the power to which b must be raised to produce a".

So it is just a way of re-arranging an equation not some symbol that does something spectacular?

EDIT: What i mean is it is simply a way of re-writing an equation not something that changes it? I am kinda confused to why you can take the log of 0 or a negative number

Therefore you can take the root edit -(log) of a negative number?

Yes, as long as you aren't powering it by an even number

Like in the case you proposed, as long as p isn't an even number, then if a is a negative number b exists.

But they always say that you cant log a negative number no matter what, as you can tell i havent been taught logs yet...only came across em in a practice exam.
