Use nature of  Biology. I have all three biology books, Heinamann, NOB and nelson. Heinamann is the best if you dont like reading but Nature of biology is sure better than Nelson in MOST of its content. No book is perfect, I found Nelson's explanation of cellular respiration and the NADH carrier molecules much better than Heinamann and NOB.

I suggest use the book your school uses and read the other one for fun.

If I'm getting Nature of Biology and another biology textbook for next year, would you recommend Heinemann or Nelson?

Heinemann is pretty good, but it has a lot of errors! Wonder if they are going to be updating the textbook next year though... hmmm. But the format of Heinemann is pretty good :)

Ok I'll consider Nelson then, apparently NOB's quite good and doesn't have many errors. Are there any other good textbooks or is it mainly those three?

I would use heinemann... You can go ask your school 2nd hand bookshop for these books like I did. They didnt even bother selling nature of biology to me, they just gave to to me out of goodwill because they saw that I wanted to do good.

What are the advantages of Heinemann over Nelson? Our school studies off NOB so that's essential. It's pretty good too.

i reckon heinemann goes into more depth than nelson , and even NOB in some parts. nelson is easier to understand tho.
NOB is the best i think cuz it gives u a good understanding of the material and the odd facts are awesome

Hmmm...well, from what I recall the heinemann 1/2 textbook mentions the role of cholestrol in cell membranes (not sure about heinemann bio 3/4 textbok), however the Nelson 3/4 textbook didn't! Hence last year in our mid-years only a few people from my school got the question right involving the role of cholestrol in cell membranes (I got it right of course! ;)).

Probably... I dunno. I don't really use the library much, I'll just buy them ;)

heinemann is pretty good.  it is missing some stuff though, like not mentioning globular and fibrous proteins.  the way in which tRNA and mRNA is explained is also rather lame.

Photosynthesis can also get confusing with all of those NADH carriers.

I have a PDF of the NOB book.  I'll read the AoS 1 section, and tell you how it compares to heinemann.  Most schools tend to use it, and even though our school uses Heinemann, our teacher gave us a photocopy of Chapter 4 from NOB, because she said they explain rational drug design really well.

I agree with pretty much everything that has been said here...

By the way, does anyone have the pdf copy of Nelson Bio (not the answers). I'd be very thankful if someone uploaded it :)
