The thing is that i have no idea wot exactly and how to write this explanation? What am i suppose to address? What am i meant to write about? Is it ment to be pursuasive technique explanation or just normal information explanation of the prompt? What is it meant to be???

I think a statement of explanation is just a small piece of writing you use to explain the purpose of the essay.
For example, you write what audience your piece is aimed at, the purpose of the essay, and also make sure your explanation is in context with the audience. For example, if your audience is students, you would be a teacher or lecturer, not a doctor :P

Then you just respond to the prompt, using information from the text you are studying...

I'm not sure if this is right though, I haven't started my SAC yet :)

^ yeah, that's pretty spot on.

Basically, the teacher wants to know who your piece is aimed at and what your purpose for writing it was. Writers (well, good ones) don't just write whatever for the sake of it, the process is very measured.

I'm used to statement of intention, I assume it's pretty much the same thing. Although a statement of intention sounds like it should be written before the essay whereas a statement of explanation sounds like it should be written after the essay, but yeah, there probably is no difference.

it used to be called staement of intension last year, since the course changed from this yr its called statement of explanation!
But anyway thanx heaps for you all to reply so quickly.Would you guys be able to tell me how should i start off the actual essay- my prompt is " our individual identity is determined by what others think of us ".
Or if you can't actually tell me cause of various reasons would you be able to give me some references where i can find decent info on individual identity.Any help would be very much appreciated!
