We got our English Sacs back today and everyone in my class performed poorly compared to other classes (Heaps of A+ and As in the other classes, only 2 As in mine, the majority got Cs and Ds) Naturally, we were upset by this and asked our teacher what happened. She told us that it was because the other teachers standardized our SACs down during cross marking, and even though she thought we did well, there wasn't much she could do cause she was outnumbered :P

However, she said to not worry, because VCAA uses the GAT to help standardize English classes within all schools. This was the only subject to do this, and it's because the subject is so subjective and the people at VCAA want to make it fairer. Furthermore, while other subjects rank students for the entire school based on the Sac and go into the exam as an entire school cohort, English is unique as we go into the exam as a class cohort. (for people who don't know, how well your cohort performs determines whether VCAA thinks your Sacs were too easy or hard and adjusts appropriately)

I can't figure out if she's actually telling the truth or just trying to make us feel better and not lose confidence, anybody know?

I've heard that the GAT is used more than people realise, but I don't have a clue if that's true or not.

I would have no idea- and I don't think you would be considered as only a class cohort, most likely the entire school cohort.

I think I got 38...  I've never heard of the GAT majorly contributing to moderation. Or any of this jaz about class cohorts..

I doubt they give out a free 48 based on gat scores anyway.
If you'd gotten 50 in the relevant sections and 100 in SAC's I doubt they'd have a choice.

I got 31 on the gat :). and I got 45 in humanities. I don't even take humanities, zzzzz.
Yea but what if there is someone in their cohort who got a 50 on the gat, and 100 SAC mark but only got 41 raw...

Actually, I had a friend who got 48 as a derived score.  True story.

Anyway, I got 39 in the Written Communications GAT and 44 in the Maths/Science one (ahead of Kyzoo...).  Take that as you will.
