We got our English Sacs back today and everyone in my class performed poorly compared to other classes (Heaps of A+ and As in the other classes, only 2 As in mine, the majority got Cs and Ds) Naturally, we were upset by this and asked our teacher what happened. She told us that it was because the other teachers standardized our SACs down during cross marking, and even though she thought we did well, there wasn't much she could do cause she was outnumbered
However, she said to not worry, because VCAA uses the GAT to help standardize English classes within all schools. This was the only subject to do this, and it's because the subject is so subjective and the people at VCAA want to make it fairer. Furthermore, while other subjects rank students for the entire school based on the Sac and go into the exam as an entire school cohort, English is unique as we go into the exam as a class cohort. (for people who don't know, how well your cohort performs determines whether VCAA thinks your Sacs were too easy or hard and adjusts appropriately)
I can't figure out if she's actually telling the truth or just trying to make us feel better and not lose confidence, anybody know?
