Yeah definitely.  A Dip. Ed. is one of the best ways to go.

thanks,

its just that
after a long period of brainstorming, i figured that teacing > medicine stuff

look, teachers get good $, they get holidays, they have time for their family...and, they don't have to learn stuff, just bs and that's all

and doctors/researchers, i think male ones are fine, but for girls to do that's just too tiring and.... what's the point... >< even my GP is regretting about becoming a doctor, she said that being a teacher means she would have more time to look after her children...

i have seen to many examples where people give up their career as a doctor, or educate their children not to become one. my dad told me not to get into the law field, and i think the same logic can apply here

PS: sry guys, i know that the things i have said may not be absolute, and it may not apply to everybody but its just that there are too many live stories around me

My mum's a teacher, and contrary to popular belief, teachers have a lot of work to do. Primary school teaching's also quite tough as you often have kids with behavioural problems or learning difficulties. Do teaching for the satisfaction of watching people develop intellectually, not for the money or holidays.

Hear hear. Teachers esp high school VCE teachers which is the only job I would ever consider if I was ever to be a teacher ( who wants to teach baby kids in Year6...immature little midgets :D ) have heavy, heavy workloads especially Year 12 teachers where students will constantly hand essays up for marking and pester with questions etc. Although teachers do earn quite less relative to the work they do, a VCE Teacher at a good private school will earn around 100k....

Teaching is definitely not something you want to go into unless you are passionate about it - you will burn out very quickly. If you are passionate, it is one of the most rewarding jobs ever.

Salary is not spectacular, especially for those teachers who would rather stay in the classroom, rather than taking on a managerial role. For a classroom teacher you hit the salary ceiling after about 11 years (~$80K).

Private school teachers do earn more (~$10 - 15K) than government school teachers but usually also have more duties (eg Saturday sport) and more expectations to 'deliver'.

Holidays are definitely great but they only partially make up for all the time during term that is spent on marking/class preparation/meetings etc every night and most weekends.

You also need to be strong emotionally or else you will self-destruct in a very short time frame.

i dont monokekie is in it for the money. from the sounds of it, she sounds like she wants to do teaching purely for the love and satisfaction of educating and learning, and not to make lots of moola $$$ ...good on you (Y)

Depending on what people at TAFE specialise, in some cases they do earn a lot of money.  I remember two years ago a teacher said how a qualified diesel mechanic earns around $85 000 per annum once they start working.
