How many of you guys doing biology want to get into medicine undergrad?
Apparently many who want to get into MBBS this year are moving away from physics and into biology because of physic's stupid mid year exam last year.

Me too. Undergrad Med ftw!

And I just changed from Bio to Physics because I find it more interesting, plus, probably comes in a tiny bit helpful for the UMAT. :)

And I also looked at last years Physics Exam very briefly, I thought it actually looked quite easy.

I'm hoping to get into medicine but guess it mostly depends on UMAT.
Have no idea how I'll go in it so have commerce as my backup

It was way too easy... for smart people, those who want to get into med, had to get almost full marks on it. Its always better to have a hard exam, so that better prepared people can be differienciated from the ... somewhat noober.

86/90 to get an A+. Some people lost like 3 marks and thought they were pro.. but ended up with a 40.

Yep, I hate that in exams. That's terrible, especially when they are inconsistent (in difficulty and style) with other exams of the same study design.

I wanted to do a totally different, un-med related job before i got into bio.

It totally changed my mind, half way through the year i was like... "hey...i sort of like this... how can i apply it to a job" and here's where i ended up.

Biology is probably helpful too, i remember seeing on some obscure part of the monash website that people who haven't done bio and want to get into med need to do some kind of bridging course. (dont quote me on this)

Ah here we go:

"If you have not done VCE Biology or equivalent, please attend a workshop on Monday 25th January at 2pm (in lecture theatre M2, Clayton Campus) where we will introduce you to, and enrol you in the course.

If you cannot attend, please contact us at [email protected] as soon as possible (before January 25th)."

I guess thats right, because you can get into the course with High UMAT and if you did English, Spesh, Methods, Further, LOTE and chemistry. kinda stupid actually.

People who are switching from physics - that is incredibly stupid.
1.  Physics is marked up, Biology is not.
2.  It's easier to do well in Physics if you're good at maths (and if you're considering medicine you would be)
3.  The only reason that exam was easy was because it was the first year of the study design; they will never repeat that same kind of exam because they know that the distributions of scores was far too positively skewed.  They are sure to make an exam that is a lot harder this year.  The same way that the Chemistry exam will be increasingly easier in the midyear.  They do monitor these things.

Anyway, I'm not doing Biology this year or Med so I'll get of this thread!
