Extension studies workload

A question - I'm planning try out for japanese extension studies @ Caulfield for next year,
whilst doing 5 subjects (eng, methods, accounting, chem (maybe swap to further because i plan to drop spesh), jap) but im wondering - how big is the workload?

I've heard it can be quite massive but what does it literally consist of/how long does it take?
I feel very passionate about the subject and do really well but will the workload cause an impact on everything else? :\

Well, i can't speak for all extention subjects, but tbh, i don't think it will be too big of an impact on your studies. Granted, i only do three propper subjects so my view may be a little skewed, but if you love a subject that much, it won't really be much of a burden on you. I can say that evey moment i spend doing maths is a moment i enjoy. If this is how you feel about jap, go for it.

Especially, becuse the stuff you learn in jap e.g. the new vocab, the more advanced grammar and such will directly help your 3/4 jap this is one more reason that doing uni jap is a good. idea. For most uni subjects, like uni chem, biol, maths, the stuff you learn in the uni corse, while it extends you and exposes you to new concepts, it dosen't directly help you with hte corresponding 3/4, however this is not the same for languages.

Not sure if this hold true for languages, but i have a 2~ hour lecture each week, and probably spend one to two hours a week doing uni maths hw.

Bottom line, because it directly helps your jap and you enjoy it, go for it. Just think of it as extra jap homework:)

Monash MUEP is the easiest thing ever, for Philosophy at least.  The workload is absolutely minimal, and the assessment isn't difficult at all.

Yeah. The work is all self-directed: do as much as you want. I do no work for it and just do the assessments (online tests and lab reports), it's very minimal and so far most do the same with the majority having a high average so far (HD). Except the exam is going to be a very, very intense few days of study. We are told that most people cram for it doing many many hours a day and that cramming works just fine. Doing 5 subjects + enhancement is very doable:)

I've heard in particular the Japanese Enhancement workload has been described as "MASSIVE"
but this could vary on student and their views on how much is a lot of work
if anyone has done Uni Jap - what type of work did you have to do? was it difficult or mainly ROTE?
How do the classes run? ahh questions!

Talk to those on here doing university Jap, but the general consensus is that it is hard. 6 subjects is also a massive workload. I wouldn't recommend it, but it comes down to what is best for you.

Just use uni jap as all the extra study for jap which you would be doing if you loved jap that much and wanted to do really well.

You'd be doing the work for jap anyway, so why not do it throuhg uni jap which gains you an expemtion at uni, is much more structured and gives you level of instruction AND gains you a nice little increment on your aggregate?

Just do what you enjoy. Expect it to be work, but don't calculate how much you think it'll be.

I made that mistake. I presumed I could not touch my books at all for UMEP and get straight 100s. I'm succeeding with the first part, but definitely not for the 2nd. I'm going to have to pick up my game and put in the hard yards. Everyone's different though.

lol, sif appinway you do enouhg physics anyway to make up fro not doing the hw for umep.

Which still comes back to my original point, if you like the subject, you'll be doing work anyway and enjoying it. => no point of NOT doing uni subject

Ahahaha, but when you do part A of your physics assignment the morning before you fly overseas... ah well, it was reasonable in comparison to the other UMEP kids, but should have been better.

Do a UMEP subject though.

Yeah, well.
I am finding first year Uni to be a total fucking BITCH of a workload; worse than VCE for me.
If it were a science subject I would say don't do it, but I suppose Japanese would be alright.

:o

are you doing science subjects? they are really not bad! (can't speak for maths, physics or bio personally but i hear they are similar to my chem subj)

Psychology, I am taking.
It is like a whirlwind of information and like 800 people do it so it's the first exam day and it's also when I have core subject essays due in.
And it's also on the day of VCE midyears.

So yeah, I'd say be cautious.
