What is a B.Comm like?

I don't know what the jobs for economics are specifically, but you will always find something. Apparently, economics is one of the most employable field, but I believe investment and finance is a good chance.

In terms of what it's like, I study economics at Melbourne and I find it really good. There's a lot of support for you and the staff are all really helpful and enthusiastic. Also, I find the subject really interesting and most other people I talk to enjoy it as well. I don't know about anything else:P

i mean apart from being an economist (which i think is quite hard to get into) i cant see where econ grads could work....wouldn't finance and/or accounting be more employable?

There are many fields that an economist can work it in: environmental, health, government, tertiary education.  But like you said, trying to get a job as an economist in Australia is very difficult, according to my tutor.  He said that the economics jobs in Australia are very competitive and it's pretty hard to get a job here.

There are so many jobs/careers paths you can take with a commerce degree.

All the graduate programs to start with: BIG 4 firms, the banks, fund managers, public service etc. etc.

Or you go on and do post grad and become a teacher, or go on and do further study/research and work in academia.

Etc. etc. etc.

For a Big 4 firm, a graduate accountant will find their starting wage is around $35k.

If you're talking about their grad program salaries than this is a little bit low. They generally pay starting salaries of around 45k +/-5k

im doing management next semester at monash is it crap as in hard or boring

it's incredibly boring, and the essays are a bitch. The readings are long and boring, the lectures suck (I've only been to a few at the start of semester though), and you can't bs too much in essays because you have to reference everything, omfg.

Worst subject ever.

You should be going to lectures.
The "potential exam Qs" that Tui occasionally gives out ARE the exam Qs almost word-for-word.
I only read two chapters all semester, and I HD'd the exam.
However, the tutor who marked my second assignment had issues and only gave me a C, so I ended up with a D overall.

My hand was fked by the end of that exam though... I had just started writing the conclusion of my 6th essay when the invigilator said "pens down", so I ended up with a one-sentence conclusion that didn't really make any sense... XD

Lol... 2 longer essays, 4 shorter essays, 2 hours total.

And you guys thought VCE English was bad...

HOLY CRAP.......that is INSANE......how do you possibly write that much??? and i thouhg my hand was bad at the end of a 1.5 hour sac.....lol

You don't stop writing.
If you do, you're losing marks.
Simple as that.

You get 15mins reading time - unless you're stupid and would rather just sit there, this is when you mentally plan all your essays and organise your thoughts.

The only time I wasn't writing was when I was waiting a few moments for a second script book, when I had a sip of water, and when my hand cramped and I needed to stretch it for a few seconds.

There is one consolation: I should mention that I'm not a particularly fast writer... others will probably find writing copious amounts in a short amount of time to be easier than I do.

I'm strongly opposed to these sorts of exams - what do they test exactly?
It's certainly not knowledge or comprehension... there isn't enough time for students to demonstrate anything particularly insightful that would allow them to demonstrate this.

i heard from my finance tutor at UoM that generally monash provides a better commerce undergrad. he was saying it had something to do with the coupling of double degrees say for smrandom azn commerce/business information systems?(if i remember from above) provides better opportunities for grads. although...that same tutor said that postgrad at UoM is better than monash and anu due to difficulty and prestigious-ness lol overall i dont think it really matters, as long as you can add stuff to your degree (e.g. diploma in maths or languages) opportunities domestically and in foreign workplaces are higher.
