1. take your time when doing the question.

2. check each step, dont do tricky steps in your head

3. use the calculator

Amen. I cannot stress how important that is. Srsly, don't go around  doing the Ahmad-act (only Ahmad can do it :P) , write all steps down!. Period.

Agree that this is a must. Make sure that you give yourself enough time to thoroughly check your answers.

That is the key.  Calculator active? USE IT.

Made me see so many stupid mistakes, on my last multi-choice sac.

Don't become dependent on the calculator though. Like me and methods CAS. Like me and differentiating in methods exam 1 6x^3 as 12x^2. Calculator is bad for you :(
