I liked it 0.o It was really unconventional and pushed me apply concepts in unfamiliar contexts. In particular i liked the question where you describe how to use UV-visible spectroscopy to determine the amount of unwinding the double helix underwent, and that trick question where 3 C=C bonds were hydrogenated over the entire fat molecule rather than over a single fatty acid molecule

It was bloody weird as. I didn't like that fatty acid question. That was a dog act. And NEAP know it. And love it.

It's like iTute for Methods and Physics. The more unusual, the better as far as i am concerned.

LOL!  Yea same, we did it today morning aswell.
It was tough, and particularly challenging. Multiple Choice, was preety straight
forward if you were able to apply/link concepts together, so I was relatively happy.

UNTIL....I got to the S.A section, to realise the toughness of the paper. I got mine
marked by my teacher at lunch time, and lost a dear 16 marks all up! (4 in MC, and 12 in Short answer).
Worst mark, since Ive started trials for Chemistry, this year :P

Back to the original question, does the number in front of ester indicate the location of hydroxy group on alcohol?

Yep, on the alcohol.
The component of the molecule containing the -O represents the section derived from the alcohol.

xD my bad, I looked at the total time and thought that was the total mark.

Btw. One of the questions asks for the structural formula of a diprotic acid with molecular formula C4H6O5 with 4 peaks on proton NMR.

The solution gives COOH.CH2.CHOH.COOH. But this molecule will produce 5 peaks on the NMR spectrum.

I got COOH.CH.(CH2OH).COOH

         CH2OH
            |
COOH - CH - COOH

Also, amino acids are in their acidic form when the pH is above their isoelectric point (pH at which the amino acid exists as a zwitterion)??? Wtf? That makes no sense. Shouldn't they be in the basic form is the pH is above their isoelectric point?
