Are photo transistors, amplifiers and capacitors on the course or not?

Key knowledge
To achieve this outcome the student should be able to:
• apply the concepts of current, resistance, potential difference (voltage drop) and power to the
operation of electronic circuits comprising diodes, resistors, thermistors and photonic transducers
including light dependent resistors (LDR), photodiodes and light emitting diodes (LED), (V=IR,
P=VI);
• calculate the effective resistance of circuits comprising parallel and series resistance and unloaded
voltage dividers;
• describe energy transfers and transformations in opto-electronic devices;
• describe the transfer of information in analogue form (not including the technical aspects of
modulation and demodulation) using:
– light intensity modulation, i.e. changing the intensity of the carrier wave to replicate the amplitude
variation of the information signal so that the signal may propagate more efficiently
– demodulation, i.e. the separation of the information signal from the carrier wave;
• design, investigate and analyse circuits for particular purposes using technical specifications related
to potential difference (voltage drop), current, resistance, power, temperature and illumination
for electronic components such as diodes, resistors, thermistors, light dependent resistors (LDR),
photodiodes and light emitting diodes (LED);
• analyse voltage characteristics of amplifiers including linear voltage gain (ΔVout/ΔVin) and
clipping;
• identify and apply safe and responsible practices when conducting investigations involving
electrical, electronic and photonic equipment.

That's the key knowledge from the study design. I don't see transistors or capacitors anywhere. And all we have to know about amplifiers is linear gain and clipping.

Yeah they simplified the shit out of it after 2008, so now transistors and capacitors are in the detailed study, further electronics.

yeah, transistors look intense, like npn junctions, way to specialised and irrelevant for this level

LOL! But I still did it, when I did Physics last year, as a precaution!
Anyways, It was apparently scraped due to large amounts of teachers not
being able to "teach" the concepts clearly, or something like that :P

yes they do look intensely difficult and far from intriguing as well

that sounds about right naved, you would need to have a uni lecturer for a teacher or someone who'd worked closely with transistors in industry to teach it, other wise they'd be really scary

Well.....we went over copper wire and the 'skin effect' today in class. is this on the study design? we were told to  cross it out during summer tsfx lecture.

I'm pretty sure it's not anymore

The Skin Effect is a pretty basic concept anyway.

The Physics Faculty at Melbourne High School however decided that all of this stuff that was on previous study designs were somehow good for us to know...

LOL! I can fully relate to that!

We learned more than half the further electronics course, transistors, 5 lessons on p-n junctions, and also all of Kepler's other laws (elliptical motion, etc.). What a waste :(

My physics teacher no joke told us that he "didn't agree with the decision to cut transistors (etc...)" and so he was going to "teach it to us anyway whether we liked it or not".
