my legal notes for Area of Study 1 - 3 for Unit 3. I only dropped 3 SAC marks for Unit 3 and all of those were my own fault. Criticism's are appreciated

ive got the AoS3 SAC this week so i might need this.

looking over all of them you seem to be doing a lot of the same cases/examples as we're doing.

are you using the "Making and Breaking the Law" text book? can't remember the author. The area of study 3 sac was fairly easy. our teacher gives us a sheet of the general topics we have to know. Area of Study 3 was pretty easy for me.

in case our sac's are similar (although of course they'd be at least a little different) we had to know:
-the reason judges interpret legislation
-Operation of the Doctrine of Precedent
-Tools that a judge may use to assist in the task of interpreting an Act of Parliament
-Options on how to avoid following the Doctrine of Precedent
-Relationship between the courts and parliament in the law-making process
-Advantages/ disadvantages of law making by Parliament  (if you use my notes, be sure to use the Area of Study 1 notes about the strengths of parliament as a law-maker)
-Advantages/ Disadvantages of law making by the courts

I never find his handouts useful, I just study like hell in between SACs anyway. But good luck on your SAC

Im using justice and outcomes.

I got my SAC guide and theyre pretty spot on. The teacher basically tells us everything in great detail, including what examples we'll need to know, which questions are worth the most marks. Its pretty much down to how much you can remember. Youre just not allowed to leave any minute details out which is the catch.

Unit 4, Area of Study 2 finished criminal procedures. would love it if past legal students could tell me that some of it's not necessary  ;)

yeah I cou;dn't agree more.... but then again more of what was covered in units 1 and 2 are prevalent in unit 4..... thus implying less study :D LOL

i'll have to disagree. unit 4 seems relatively new to me. new and irritating. want whoever thought unit 4 should be half the book to be put on trial in the adversarial system (I couldn't think of anything more entertaining to write, my apologies everyone)

sorry didn't notice your post, Abdi distracting me :D

just today we finished civil procedures. final two chapters, my legal teacher's a bit of a bitch if I may say so. gives us a week and a bit to learn elements of an effective legal system - finish criminal procedures, then a week after he plans to give us a sac on what I hope to be only civil procedures... if it includes the adversary system of trial too i'll be shattered, he plans to set us a heap of work to do at home because we're missing so much class... he could just abandon the excursion to the courts?

that's enough whining from me, back to doing work I suppose

good luck all other legal students, exam's are approachin'
