fingernailing ftw.

knock down atleast 10-12 theory MC's lol in 10 or so minutes. then breeze over each SA and check out what each one is based on. eg gravimetric/titration/spectroscopy/ organic etc.

I did it for Biol last year and would have easily done about 15+ MC's in reading time haaha.

That is exactly my technique Greggler :)

Do as many MC as possible in reading time, whilst having a very quick look over short answer to know what you have to retrieve from your brain and think about haha, then finish off the MC in the first 10-15 mins of the exam, and you leave yourself with a good hour and fifteen to take on the short answer questions.

If you WANT to risk fingernailing, go ahead for it - But this is the official rule:
Quote
15. A student must not begin to write or mark his or her paper or response material in
any way, or use a calculator, until advised by a supervisor that writing may
commence.
I am pretty sure they are allowed to take the paper off you, and/or marking down by a grade. In reading time, taking the paper off you AND losing a grade = g.g.

And Im pretty sure there is a good reason to not have a calculator in reading time.
You could easily type in 2344341233 - Or something of the sort, corresponding with BCDDCDABCC

Personally this would be my strategy - start with short answer, and answer the Organic pathways question first - it's always the easiest to knock off. Then just work out in terms of difficulty. Im expecting the paper to be long, so at least if I dont have enough time I can guess the multis.
Multis in reading time - I dont like the idea. It makes it soo much easier to fall for every possible trap there is.

I don't know what you mean by traps. People say vcaa 09 had traps? yeah right.

I did multi's in that paper, seemed to do fine in reading time.

True...but by doing the MC's in reading time, and even if you dont fingernail yours in...
Just do them, because when you start your exam, and you got those ~10 Mc's done, circle them
in ASAP, and do what your plan of action is after that ...
