Actually no...I don't think they can take marks off for saying 6.

If you look in the question, it states "An addition reaction takes place between the double bonds in cervonic acid and iodine." Clearly they are referring to C=C doubles bonds here. Yet they then go on to ask, 2 sentences later, "calculate the double bonds in a molecule of cervonic acid." They didn't further qualify the term "double bond", and they clearly made a statement equating double bonds as C=C bonds just before the actual question.

Do you have some chem assessor at your school? I hope we can get this clarified tomorrow!

They did that specifically to mislead kyzoo...  first time it said 'carbon-carbon double bonds'

Then in the question it said just 'double bonds'

first time = carbon-carbon double bonds. second time = double bond. third time = question.

hmm, i never thought of it like that.  second time they were referring to the c-c double bonds, as they referred to iodine.
then they switched to double bonds in the molecule.

i'm not really sure now, which is why i guess i put down both to try and cover everything...

Lol it's only someone in my position who didn't see everything the first time that would perceive this kind of thing. But it's much better to be in your position xD.

I think its good to clarify that this isn't normally the case where you can put 50 answers and hope 1 is right lol. In this particular question it is ideal to put 2 since probably most people put 6 bonds and since the question was 100% explicit. I think normally markers pick only 1st answer if you put several down

I think VCAA put that little trap in intentionally, or else that would be a pretty easy question.
