What's a lab exam?
According to the article:
The girls say the lab exam was easier than the theoretical exam. "Basically, they give everyone a massive box of equipment and a couple of sheets of instructions and you get five hours to play around and work the problem," Madeleine says.

Sounds fun :)

Ken, don't waste posting space. But for anyone who's genuinely interested and isn't just trolling *cough*Ken*cough*, the lab exams involve testing physical laws and determining the relationship between things, or the quality of a device... things like that.

How can you be marked on that? Like how is the marking scheme for labs? I assume the theory test is pretty straight forward (IMO style?)

Oh, there's a marking scheme. The major thing in labs is actually figuring out what you're measuring/how to measure it, and how to do it most effectively. I think the lab section is more creative than the theory in some ways, because there are so many things that you have to consider, whereas in the theory they'll tell you to approximate certain things or neglect them. You can have a look at some labs - they vary widely from long 'recipe' labs (which I don't like) to labs where you're given a set of equipment and you have to figure out your own novel method of measuring something. You can find the APhO 2010 labs/marking schemes here (http://mpec.sc.mahidol.ac.th/apho10/node/109) - these were regarded as easy labs, but they were quite long.
