^ unless you have my teacher who will let students stutter 57 times during their speech whilst reading it off the powerpoint, and still give them 19/20!
Yes i experienced something similar to this, my teacher basically gave everyone a free A on their oral so was basically a wasted SAC. i was fuming.

that's crappppppppp :(

I did mine on asylum seekers and for a 3 minute oral presentation (well below the required 5 minutes) I managed to get an A while others who did 10minute orals got D's and D+'s. I pretty much went onto this site http://www.education.theage.com.au/cmsarchive.php?intcmspageid=135 (has plenty of issues that have been in the news)  found the issue of asylum seekers and copied other peoples comments because I'm too lazy :) Did it 2 nights before the oral in about 5 minutes.  Anyway Good luck!

yea, totally, better to have a shot quality speech than a long rambling waffly speech :)

Yup agreed. Teachers hate long speeches unless your a gifted speaker and you can keep the teacher genuinely interested. My mate did a 9 minute speech and he got a D because he had no tone in his voice but more importantly he couldn't keep the teacher interested so much so that she opened a packet of cookies during his oral and started eating.

lol yeah I constantly remind him now how boring he is. He had only got through about 3 minutes so he was probably still talking about his first point perhaps even his intro lol, so stopping there would have got him a worse mark.

My speech was 9 minutes long and I got full marks. I did it completely by heart also, something I'd recommend if you feel you can.

Something I noticed when I did mine was that the best marks tended to go to the students who chose slightly different topics. If a teacher sits through half a dozen speeches all on the same issue you'd have to really stand out.

thanks all for the pointers. Some good topics to choose from here aswell :D.

I'm pretty good with talking out loud and I dont get that nervous so that aspect should be fine. Just to decide a topic that I can talk a lot about and should all go well XD

For a topic what do people think about public transport and the inconsistency overall. I havent found an article but I know this is something everyone who takes public transport faces and I can easily make out points and put in anecdotes on it aswell. Could also include about the new myki system.

good enough choice?

Depends on how angry the system makes YOU feel. Enthusiasm and self interest in the topic is really important imo.

defs, i also know ppl who talked shit, but got reli into it and passinate and LOOKED like they knew what they were talking about.....IMPRESSIONS are much better than INFORMATION

Having said that, information dose help....but if the teacher at the end of your presentaion steps back and goes wow, then you've got a pretty decent score in the bag :)
