It's run by volunteers, not actual university lecturers but we're still pretty good at teaching!
If you're in year 11 at the moment you might want to check the website out :)

Is it only for people from "Access Melbourne" schools?

Not as far as I know, but it is certainly aimed at students from underrepresented schools. I don't think Shane (admin) actually checks your school but...we run at a loss anyway, so we're really only in it to help those kids out.

Hey Russ,

How many years you've been volunteering? I was there up to 2008/09 (3yrs running). Paired up with a friend who also left to join Dept of Education. Predominantly ATSI and Indigenous students during my run.

2 years now.
It certainly wasn't predominantly ATSI/indigenous students last year (or at least not in the classes I taught). Seeing them around campus, it didn't seem like a particularly over-represented demographic either.

We're underwritten by the union apparently, so we actually run at a loss. But yeah, if you want to volunteer please do :)

Same link as above!

I'm a tad bit confused.. You can pay 160 dollars to get the tutoring, but you have to make your way their by yourself.
Theres an other option of paying 500 something dollars to stay on campus?

Can you please explain the ~$500 dollar one to me, Russ?

I think it's an extra $500 or whatever it specified to stay at the allocated UoM residential college for the week.

Like you said, it's to stay on campus. You'll live in one of the residential colleges for the fortnight (since no uni students are there over summer) with a team of residential tutors. So all you need will be supplied and the residential tutors run events/nights out etc. because you're there after the day students go home. Plus they'll do extra tutoring if you want it.

Pretty sure they're hosting you at St. Hilda's but don't quote me on that.

It's a college (place where students live) on the campus. This is their info page but again, not 100% sure if you're being hosted there or at another one. Basically you live at the uni for the duration of the summer school.
