Hi :)

If you want to do a 3/4 subject in year 11, my advice is to pick one that isn't reliant on having done the 1/2. I think that doing one in year 11 does help your year 12 workload and it's not that much harder than a regular year 11 subject.

I recommend history (revs, renaissance and classics) if you enjoy the humanities. Biology and Psych if you enjoy science.

3/4's in Year 11 are easier as you have more time to concentrate on them than in Year 12.

I would encourage students to try and do between 2 or 3 Unit 3/4s' in Year 11 if the school allows it.

welcome to vn :)

as for your question, i would strongly recoomend doing a 3/4 in year 11. It will give you a feel for what a 3/4 is so you don't get so much of a shock in year 12. Furthemore, as has alredy beens stated, it give you a chance to get ahead, with a study score alredy under your belt at the start of year 12 , and you will get more time to focus on your 3/4 in year 11.

To answer your question, I'm currently in Year 11 and am doing a 3/4 subject (Accounting). I'm finding Accounting is pretty good, not too hard. (but that's just me though, depends on the subject your planning to do). I'd agree with posts previously about trying a 3/4 subject in Year 11... I spent most of my time revising for before the mid-year exam (the exam gave me experience of what it's like sitting a VCE exam rather than a normal school exam.) - I've spent the most part of this year focusing on Accounting! In short, I'd say do a 3/4 subject in Year 11.

Hope that helps. :)

ok thanks for all the help guys.
so you won't need to do 1/2's in psychology and biology to do 3/4's?
because i enjoy science and i'm now thinking to do either one of them

Well, of course it would be better if you did do the 1/2's
Doing ANY 3/4 without a 1/2 will put you at a disadvantage unless you can self-teach well. Biology and psychology are just examples of subjects that you can cope with without doing a 1/2... whereas a subject like chemistry or physics, you wouldn't do a 3/4 without the 1/2 as its just too hard and you need the knowledge from 1/2

^ yeah you don't need 1/2 for bio or psych, psych especially i'd have to say since i didn't do 1/2. except there is always something that put you at an advantage if you remember from 1/2, like research methods from psych and some cells things for bio. but it is not necessary to have prior knowledge because you re-do it all anyway.

and doing a 3/4 in year 11 is very good, personally i think it is harder due to the fact unless you were a studier in year 10, you wouldn't have much knowledge of how to study. but the time factor makes it easier of course.. though i certainly had never done any work before psych, so the entire of unit 3 i tried to learn how to study and for my exam (which i realised my horrible study methods towards unit 4 exam which put me at a disadvantage), compared to my subjects now that require memorisation (pe could be similar to psych) which i was able to utilise skills learnt right away.
so DEFINITELY do a 3/4!

I disagree that doing a 3/4 in year 11 is very good... as evident in my 28 study score lol

You don't have that frame of mind that you do in year 12, so you will probably not do as good (not in everyone, just some people)

If i compare myself now to how i was at the start of the year, i've become so much smarter and also do a lot more work/study

If you can see yourself putting everything you've got into a 3/4 in year 11 then go for it because you do have a lot more time to study and you can afford to neglect some 1/2's before sac/exam time

nah, i think it is still good to do a 3/4/ in year 11 regradless. At least now u know relisitcally the amount of work you ened to do if you want to get above that. i.e. getting 5 28s THIS year is MUCH worse than getting one 28 last year right? Now you know realisically what ur in for.

In my experience, most people who don't do a 3/4 in yr 11 end up regretting it in year 12. If you have the opportunity, definitely take it. If you don't do as well as you want to, you can redo the subject in year 12 or just learn from it. I did a 3/4 in yr 11 but like '99.95_for_sure' i didn't have the frame of mind and motivation, I didn't prepare well for my exam (only did 1 prac exam) and ended up getting a study score in the mid 30s. But i learnt from it =]

DO A 3/4 IN YEAR 12!!!!!! I did one and obviously I didn't take it too seriously (33 SS). BUT now I know what I have to do in year 12 to acheive a high mark as apposed to those that are having their first exams this year. I would advise you do any subject you enjoy. Avoid the 'hard sciences and maths' (I apologize for saying hard but I have no idea how else to describe them). Maybe Bus-man or legal???
