Basically kids at school have been telling me that to become a dentist (Which i am thinking about) you can do some easy course i think its oral health or something then transfer to latrobe to do dentistry?

I guessing its more complex otherwise everyone would do it with no need for being very successfull at VCE.

Can someone please shed some light on "back door" ways into dentistry, physio and becoming a doctor

Thanks everyone.

Oral health isn't an easy course and not the same as dentistry. It prepares you to become a dental hygienist.

I think you are referring to Graduate programs where you require an undergraduate degree as an alternate pathway, and obviously isn't as easy as you might think :P

Oh, i cant remember the exact details sorry.
But i remember there being a pathway of getting into a relitively easy course then transfering into Dentistry at LaTrobe?
Is this possible or not?
Also how hard is it transfering from science or biomed into medicine, i mean do you need to maintain high distinctions or something like that?

Thanks for the help as this is my first time really trying to figure out what course i will be doing next year.

I never really checked the details because I didn't plan to do it, but you can do non-standard entry into dentistry/medicine from any other course (where they look at a combination of your ENTER, uni marks, UMAT).

It's quite hard plus they generally won't give you credit for your previous year's work, so you start at 1st year again (a friend transferred to monash med from adelaide uni and had to repeat 1st year)

Right, so if you go out on a limb and then you dont get selected your pretty much screwed?

Im guessing i am only going to get an enterscore of 93 (Despite what my sig says)so i guess there is no way for me to become a dentist or any other jobs in the medical field even if i do transfer?

Hmmm, understanding uni courses seem so complicated as each university has different courses, systems, ways of getting in etc

Well if they don't accept you then you'd need to continue with whatever degree you're currently in. That's not exactly "screwed", you can always do graduate entry and work towards that.

Not at all, there are a lot of options and pathways. It might take you an extra couple of years, but in the scheme of things (I feel), it's well worth it.

Yeah, an extra few years dont bother me as much as not doing dentistry at all.

What courses would i need to get accepted into to be able to transfer later on?

Are the enterscore requirements high?

93 is still a very hard score to get. You would want A+ in most of your exams.
