Motivation.

What do you guys do to keep your motivation up?
I seriously can't be bothered anymore, I'm having to force myself to study, and when I do I'm not studying anywhere near as efficiently as I was for the first half of the year.
I'm ranked 1st or 2nd in all of my subjects, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose my rank this semester unless I do something to get back some motivation.
Same thing happened to me last year in yr11, and while I still went pretty well overall, I could have gone better if I'd stayed consistent throughout the year.

Any tips? I'm interested to hear what you do to keep motivated.

I just want to give up and go to sleep..

I do a meta-analysis of my situation. I think about how I've been in similar places but always pulled through. I've always gone "oh god this is so hard and boring" but I've always managed to get the good marks. Just knowing that, I can usually tell myself to do better and study more.

Also, fake being enthusiastic. I pretend to be pumped up about what I'm doing and it really does help doing the extra few hours study.

What you learn in VCE is going to be crucial later on, especially if you're going to do something in science, since learning a science is like building a scaffold. Learn out of curiosity... try to think of why a concept is important, and after you learn it, remind yourself that you are now smarter for having learnt it. Also remind yourself that study needs to be done, no matter when you do it. If you don't study intelligently now you are going to be pulling your hair out later, not getting enough sleep, going through hell in general and still getting bad marks because you are cramming.

Every now and then, step back from what you are doing and think about what you want to be when you grow up. Is what you are doing now in any way related to that? Look online for videos or examples of experts in that field. You seem to be doing a lot of science... if that's what you wanna do later on, look up new discoveries being made and read about geniuses in each field. What you want to be when you grow up is awesome and you have to study now so you can be awesome.

But perhaps long term goals don't do it for you, you could try to set realistic short-term goals too. You could have friendly competitions with your classmates, for example. By seeing who can get a higher mark you will have more motivation to do well, and moreover, merely letting your friends know that you are going to study hard will put pressure on yourself to do well and not disappoint.

Is there anyone who really wants you to do well? For example, a hard-working teacher or mentor who you don't want to disappoint? This is your chance exceed all expectations. Or perhaps there is someone who wants you to fail, or who doesn't believe you can do well. This is your chance to prove them wrong.

Finally, music is incredibly important. Choose music that inspires you.

umm everyones been there but what motivated me for a period of time was watching the movie 'pursuit of happyness'. If you've seen it its probably hard to watch it again but damn it worked for me for a while. Sounds corny but its true
"Don’t ever let somebody tell you you can’t do something, not even me.  Alright?  You got a dream, you gotta protect it.  People can’t do something themselves, they wanna tell you you can’t do it.  If you want something, go get it, period." - Chris Gardner

The trouble with me is that im ONLY motivated 3 days before an EXAM or the night before a SAC. The rest of my time is spent stressing about said Exam/SAC but not enough to actually motivate me to study.

Yeaaahhhh im screwed :D

The only subject I'm not motivated for now is physics, we got a crappy teacher this semester and I can't seem to fully grasp magnetism :\.

On-topic: I like to watch advanced video tutorials to get motivated, (eg. advanced calculus videos to motivate me to study maths and shiz).

I keep returning to the (hopefully) glorious moment when I check the mail on December 13. That, and I enjoy/have psyched myself to enjoy just about all my subjects.

Is your desired ATAR a difficult one to obtain? A high goal can serve to motivate. Try find a scholarship for your course if it's a low one - aiming for that could give you some greater drive in your studies.

Wow Stroodle I have the exact same problem as you. I don't even think about or focus on VCE anymore >.<. I used to be absolutely addicted to VNNotes and now I don't even understand how I was like that.
