There should be more external exams.. or atleast a few schools group up to make a cohort and that the sacs will be at the same level of difficulty through those few schools. But vcaa and schools just cbf

Read this.

okay I think I sort of get it

School A
In School A, student a has the highest coursework score (90) and the highest external score (89). After moderation, student a stays at the top of the group with a moderated score set equal to the school's highest external score (89). Students b and c have equal coursework scores (79), but student b has a higher external score (70) than student c (67). They receive identical moderated scores (73) and remain equal third in the school's rank order. Student d has the lowest coursework score (52) and the lowest external score (40). After moderation he/she stays at the lowest score.

Lets say there is student e who had sac coursework of say 70 but got equal highest external mark as student A. what happens then?

yeah you get a C or C+ . Your school needs to give out harder SACs which will differentiate people.

I don't think the system would work that way..
Because teachers would just give out 100% scores for all SAC's and that would ruin the system....
The system should work because, the first person should get the highest exam mark, the second ranked should get the second highest exam mark and so on. (this is the point of ranking isn't it?? )

but far out i mean .. for my sacs . which wernt that easy .. i was studying hard 3-5 hours a day .. ended up averaging 88% ... which is an A ...
and u see
my class is both extremly smart and exrtremly dumb ... i mean .. i would have been ranked .. 15th in my class or so .... but then after me .. with 88% average ... every one else was averaging about 60% ... which is stupid
because that means .. all the people who fked up on the exam and got a C .....i take their sac marks

fkin bullshit .. going from A to C for sacs because ur class has some dead shits in it ...
absoultely fkin ridiculous ... no chance of 35 raw for chem now . with B mid year C on sacs .... sorry guys

Pretty sure there's at least some humour in that sig

Anyway, with the sac/exam thing...don't worry about it. It's seriously out of your control and exists only to make comparisons easier. If you get good exam marks you'll get a high study score, if you don't then you won't. The whole point of moderating sac marks against exam marks is because the VCAA can't control your school.

haha that was the best. 1 week off school before exams to study and also derived scores for the majority of the school which was not effected at all. The level your mark gets boosted is dependant on your SACs and end of year exam.

you really should have applied for a derived score if you had a chest infection =\ that way if you got an A+ on the end of year 40 would be within reach =\

The problem with VCAA giving you an A for your SACs would mean that teachers could give out really high marks and their students would all get good marks no matter what. Last year I got an A+ on my exam but the "deadshits" in my class, including the prizewinner managed to all get B+ and A on the exam which brought my sacs down considerably, and screwed up my study score. It is what happens when a teacher give high SAC marks to kids which gives them an impression they are doing really well, then come exam time they screw up.

I was saying that scaling and moving the sacs is secondary to your exam marks. If you do exceptionally well in your exams, you'll be getting a 45+ score. If you don't do exceptionally well, you won't get that score. It's unfortunate that your SAC marks are that much higher than your exam mark - but to the VCAA it doesn't matter. They can't control the difficulty of your SACs, so they can't use them to determine how "good" you are, so they're forced to use something else/change yours.

You might be upset, but the system is relatively good. There are what, 45 thousand students sitting the VCE? Any system that can handle that volume of students spread out across the state is pretty decent.

Did you even read my post, I was referring to the guy quoting the swine flu comment.

Sit down, relax and stop obsessing over your exam. It can only hurt your chances to do well later. If you want to use it as motivation, that'd be the best way to deal with it.

teacher said i wouldnt get any benefits because i sat the exam and was apparently "ok" when i was coughing every 20 seconds in the exam lol..

but oi .. put excuses aside
either way .. i still got a B .. cant change that
but the fact that im getting C instead of A for sacs is ridiculous

if i get a high A+ for end of year exam .. is 35 raw still possible with B mid year ( down from A to C in sacs) and A+ end of year:???
